LIHUE — The deadline for ticket sales for the Veterans Day drawing for travel certificates is rapidly approaching, said Ed Kawamura, commandant for the Kauai Veterans Council.
One $1,000 travel certificate, two $500 travel certificates, four $250 certificates and five $100 certificates will be presented on Saturday during the ceremonies following the Veterans Day Parade at the historic County Building.
Gen. (ret. USAF) Mary Kay Hertog said the theme of this year’s parade is “Honoring Generations of Service to America,” and in keeping with this theme, several grand marshals paying tribute to veterans who have served during all the major wars and conflicts since World War II.
“We decided to do something a little different this year,” Hertog said. “Instead of one grand marshal, we will be honoring several people, including Quentin Belles and Jiro Yukimura, veterans from World War II, Royce Ebesu representing the Korean War, Wilbert Pereira representing the Vietnam War, Daniel DeGracia from Operation Desert Storm, Lorenzo Gonzalez from Operation Enduring Freedom, and Johnette Chun from Operation Iraqi Freedom.”
Hertog said there are 38 organizations registered for the parade that starts at 10 a.m. from the Vidinha Stadium parking lot.
Road closures and bus stop modifications to accommodate the parade will take effect from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday.
Kauai Police Department will close all streets along the parade route and during the road closures, the bus stop on Eiwa Street will be temporarily relocated to Hardy Street fronting the state building.
No parking will be allowed along the parade route, including Eiwa and Umi streets after 9:30 a.m., Saturday.
Ron Wiley of KQNG Radio Group and Joe Munechika are tasked with identifying the parade participants to spectators who are able to enjoy the parade along Rice Street from Ho‘olako Street to the historic County Building.
The entertainment lineup includes Cruz Control, PonoBreeze and Makani Entertainment.
Food trucks and vendors offering food will greet the end of the parade where Dickie Chang will host the ceremonies featuring Major General Arthur “Joe” Logan, the Adjutant General, Hawaii National Guard, as the keynote speaker.
As the Adjutant General, Logan oversees the training and readiness of 5,500 soldiers and airmen of the Hawaii National Guard. He also serves as the director for the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency, and is the homeland security adviser to the governor.
LIHUE — Roads will be closed and bus routes will be changed to accommodate the Veteran’s Day Parade on Saturday along Rice Street in Lihue, starting at 10 a.m.
Kauai Police Department will close all streets along the parade route, from roughly 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
