Merritt joined keiki beauty royalties Shylah Kaohi, Alexis Cacabelos, and Carlee Dusenberry in getting a photo at one of the food-collection stations.
“This is part of the Safeway Feed the Need campaign,” Merritt said.
All the Safeway stores in Hawaii and Northern California participated.
The results of Saturday’s drive join the growing collection of food in the campaign which started Oct. 5 and continues through Dec. 27. Donations support the Hawaii Foodbank Kauai branch. Wes Perreira, warehouse supervisor, said the two Kauai Safeway stores finished Saturday’s drive as the top two stores in Hawaii. The Kapaa store sold 254 bags, Perreira said. The Lihue store finished with 158 bags sold.
“Kauai is such a tight-knit community, and the people are so giving, especially if it’s to help others who need a little lift,” Merritt said.
In the Feed the Need campaign, shoppers can purchase $10 Feed the Need bags. The bag helps feed a family in need during the holiday season and contains canned goods, a jar of peanut butter, and pasta.
