Kauai High School boys bowling team placed seventh and the girls finished ninth overall at the Billy Tees Bowling Championships at Leeward Bowl on Oahu.
The Red Raider boys totaled 7,344 points in the two-day tournament, and the girls totaled 5,896 points.
Pearl City High School of the Oahu Interscholastic Federation won the boys state championship with a score of 7,945. Mililani and Kapolei, both also of the OIA, placed second and third respectively.
Mililani scored a 7,839, and Kapolei scored a 7,793.
Maryknoll School of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu won the girls title with a total of 6,988. OIA’s Moanalua was second with 6,966. OIA’s Leilehua was third with 6,897.
Individually, sophomore Alvin Reis and senior Maria Luis were Kauai High’s best at the state competition.
Reis was 14th overall among the boys, knocking down 1,413 pins. Pearl City senior Christopher Yadao was the boys top finisher, knocking down 1,875 pins.
Luis was 16th among the girls, knocking down 1,426 pins. Leilehua junior Gwen Mahea was first overall, knocking down 1,614 pins.
Red Raiders junior Alan Bueno was 20th of the boys, knocking down 1,560 pins. The other Red Raider boys are: Christian Iloreta (24th, 1,350 pins), Trevor Passmore (71st, 1,063 pins) and Rendle Mones (96th, 636 pins). Kapaa High senior Caleb Keohohou placed 63rd (1,415 pins).
Senior Tia Rego was Kauai’s next-best girls bowler, placing 72nd overall (1,197 pins). Other from Kauai are: Geneva Dela Cruz (75th, 1,193 pins), Krysten Padasdao (78th, 1,177 pins) and Tiare Sheldon-Oana (99th, 903 pins).
