LIHUE — Two Kauai students were among the winners of AlohaCare’s 14th annual Children’s Art Contest.
Cheanei Caranto of Kekaha School took first place overall statewide, and Sonya Ell of Kanuikapono Public Charter School in Anahola took first place in the third-and-fourth-grade category. AlohaCare in a press release also congratulated their teachers, Maxine Akita of Kekaha School and Taryn Craig of Kanuikapono Public Charter School.
AlohaCare has given away more than $2,000 in prize money. The first-, second- and third-place winners in each of the four grade categories received $100, $75 and $50, respectively.
The art contest was open to students statewide in four grade levels: kindergarten, first and second grade, third and fourth grade, and fifth and sixth grade. The students submitted drawings based on one of four health-related topics: preventive health, mental health, nutrition and physical activities.
“We’re committed to improving the health and wellness of communities across our state,” said John McComas, AlohaCare’s president and CEO.
The drawings will be featured in AlohaCare’s 2017 calendar, to be released in December.
