Makala would love to hear from her ohana on Kauai.
The two-year-old is a very medically involved child who has been receiving early intervention service since birth. She has a feeding tube and full time at-home nursing.
Her family is loving and takes great care of her, but it isn’t easy. They could really benefit from a nice meal and some toys to make it a great Christmas for everyone.
Kala is another two-year-old who needs the community’s help.
He was born with brain damage and has developmental delays. He has been receiving services through Easter Seals for a year now. He has one older sister and the family lives with the grandparents as they cannot afford a house for themselves. Kala is in need of toys and books. If he had these things it would be a very happy Christmas.
The Garden Island/Zonta Christmas Fund was established in the early 1980s to help families like these during the holidays. Donations to the Christmas Fund are distributed by Zonta Club members, who purchase gift certificates at local stores to make wishes come true.
Each donated dollar is accounted for and carefully recorded. There are no administrators collecting salaries. Volunteers run the show.
If you hold a fundraiser for the Christmas Fund or know of one, let us know and we’ll spread the word. Anyone making a donation of $50 or more may have their picture presenting the check to Zonta published in TGI.
