Leia is an 18-year-old woman with Downs syndrome. She lives at home with her father and three siblings. She is fun loving and kind. She likes to talk story and helps with caring for her younger siblings. She would appreciate food and clothing for Christmas.
Carly is a 49-year-old woman who suffers from hearing loss. She is employed at a resort as a dishwasher, but her hours have been decreased, so she is struggling to make ends meet.
Carly would love a monthly bus pass and some food to fill her cupboards.
Patty is a 47-year-old woman who lives with her family in Hanamaulu and has a personal assistance habitation worker who helps with her goals to increase her independence.
Patty’s Christmas request is modest. She is asking for funding to purchase wipes and other medical supplies so the family doesn’t have to spend its limited income to meet her needs.
The Garden Island/Zonta Club Christmas Fund was established in the early 1980s to help people like Sam during the holidays. Donations to the Christmas Fund are distributed by Zonta Club members, who purchase gift certificates at local stores to make wishes come true.
Each donated dollar is accounted for and recorded. There are no administrators collecting salaries. Volunteers run the show. Anyone making a donation of $50 or more may have their picture presenting the check to Zonta published in TGI.
