Congratulations to coaches Bronson Bautista and Dino Pabre on their efforts to keep the Kapaa and Waimea boys fighting to the final buzzer, and congratulations to Joel Soriano on taking that inbound with just two ticks showing and draining the ball for the Waimea win at the buzzer.
Coach Lois Keamoai had the right idea — smoked meat, corn and rice is definitely the right combination, and Brad Sato and Wendi Magaoay (no camera? just the iPhone?) showed up to watch the ending of that classic game.
Coach Ipo Yoshioka had his family in tow, and will be expecting a full house when the Menehune come to call at the Kauai High School gym after the New Year’s.
Another round of kudos to Kirk Correa and Dallas Correa on pulling together that great Garden Island Baseball Clinic and High School Showcase. Lenny Rapozo said they were getting phone calls on whether a game was taking place under the lights when the high school players took the field, and it was interesting to watch the 60-yard runs. Coach Bryan Aiwohi is already thinking about this year’s new pitch count ruling.
