POIPU — Josie Esposo took top honors in the stocking contest hosted by the Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club from among the field of 50 stockings festooned with Angry Birds and Pokemon characters Friday.
Each of the stockings was designated for an individual keiki from a list provided by the Angel Tree and the state’s Child Welfare Services. Waiohai associates “adopted” a stocking and set out to decorate it.
The decorated stockings joined 33 family gift boxes put together by the Waiohai associates for families who could use the contents to help make the holidays a little brighter. Each box contained a supply of linen, towels, blankets, pillow, T-shirts and toiletry supplies provided by the Poipu resort.
The stockings and family gift boxes were distributed Friday to the state’s Child Welfare Services, represented by Kirstie Kashima, Dirk Nuttle and Michelle Perlas, and Prison Ministries, represented by Clayton Siu.
Jenni Saguid of the Waiohai said the distribution of items for those less-fortunate is a Waiohai tradition that gives the resort a time to give back while having some fun.
Katrina Sahut earned runner-up honors in the stocking contest, an honor she repeated by taking top spots in the annual contest.
