WAILUA – Firefighters responded to a call of a female hiker in distress Friday afternoon near Uluwehi Falls, also known as Secret Falls, in Wailua.
Police dispatch was notified of the incident at around 2 p.m., when a 66-year-old California woman apparently fell while hiking along the trail with a tour group.
Firefighters from the Kapaa and Kaiakea fire stations hiked into the trail and located the woman, who was being tended to by the tour guide and a family member.
Rescuers were prepared to hike the woman out of the area using a Stokes litter, but requested Air 1 assistance due to the hazardous condition of the trail.
Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 then transported the injured woman to Wailua Homesteads Park, where awaiting medics transported her to Wilcox Hospital.
