LIHUE — Automatic Electronic Defribillators save lives, said Dr. Jeff Goodwin of the Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay.
“There was one installed at Iolani School (on Oahu), and it helped save the life of a parent,” Goodwin said. “AEDs work — if they’re installed. You’ll never know whose life gets saved — it could be a student, a teacher, or parent.”
Goodwin joined Jill Lowry and Sally Motta of the Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay on Tuesday at the Department of Education’s principals’ meeting to present an AED to Anne Kane, principal of Kauai High School, and William Arakaki, Kauai Complex Area superintendent.
Lowry, chair of the Heart of Gold Campaign by the Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay, said the presentation was made possible through the donation of Dr. Geri Young and Dr. Robert Teichman, whose children graduated from Kauai High School in 2002 and 2003.
“Much of which school receives an AED is determined by donors,” Lowry said. “Drs. Young and Teichman said the boys had a great educational experience at Kauai High School and were happy to be able to contribute to this effort. We welcome donations of any amount toward getting AEDs into schools on Kauai and Ni‘ihau.”
Motta said the Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay is always looking for projects to undertake that benefit the community.
