KILAUEA — Anaina Hou Community Park is launching a new series of free community events this year. The first Anaina Hou Moolelo Series event will be Friday at the Parish Hall in Kilauea.
This “talk story” series is designed to bring the community together to honor the past through stories from kupuna and historians, celebrating the history and cultural traditions of life in Kilauea and across the North Shore of Kauai.
“We are very honored to begin our series with Uncle Gary Smith,” said Thomas Daubert, executive director of Anaina Hou Community Park. “He will present stories of life during the plantation days of Kilauea, and help set the intention for this series as we celebrate, share and archive the rich stories of our community. Also, as we continue progress towards the development of our arts pavilion, we are deeply grateful to be able to present the event at the Parish Hall.”
Members of the Kilauea Social Club will provide welcoming music beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the talk will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The event is presented by Anaina Hou Community Park, a nonprofit organization located near the heart of Kilauea. The organization and was established in 2010 to provide Kauai with a gathering place focused on art, education, recreation and agriculture.
