Jesus Taylan Sr.
Jesus Taylan Sr. of Kauai passed away at the age of 85 on Dec. 6 at home in Puhi. Born on Nov. 8, 1931 in Dingras, Ilocos
Norte, Philippines, he was an irrigator with the sugar plantation.
He is preceded in death by his father, Juan Taylan; mother, Leonarda Taylan; brothers, Jose Taylan, Martin Taylan,
Antonio Taylan, Alfredo Taylan and Emeterio Taylan; and sister, Trinidad Calumag.
He is survived by his wife, Caridad Pillos Taylan; sons, Efren (Glory) Taylan of Puhi, Gil Taylan of Philippines, Jesmel (Teri Goo) Taylan of Puhi, and Jesus (Airah) Taylan Jr. of Las Vegas; daughter, Nancy (Alex) Cezar of Lihue; niece, Rosalinda Taylan Calumag; grandchildren, Joy Fusco, Jennifer Carvalho, Kira Taylan, Travis Taylan, Andrew Cezar, Jessica Cezar, Keiki Goo-Taylan, Kaluka Goo-Taylan, and Chelsey-Lyn Silva; numerous great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Jan. 14 at Immaculate Conception Church in Lihue. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. with Mass to begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be followed at Lihue Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested and flowers are welcomed.

Brenda Lynn Rubwan
Brenda Lynn Rubwan of Hanamaulu passed away on Dec. 3 at the age of 33. She was born on Yap island on Jan. 2, 1983 and was employed with Kauai Beach Villas as a housekeeping supervisor.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Falangrow.
She is survived by her son, Perezson Ragagad; daughter, Perlynn Ragagad; mother, Veronica Matningmad; brothers, John Mirey of Hanamaulu, Brandon Gidiyoor of Idaho; sister, Vera (Julius Urun) Yammad of Idaho; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7, at Immaculate Conception Church in Lihue, with viewing from 8 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Lihue Cemetery.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Rubwan family with arrangements.
Kent ‘Tubby’ Kaui
Kent “Tubby” Nalaniehiku Kaui of Kapaa passed away at the age of 63 on Dec. 16 in Lihue. Born on Dec. 16, 1953 in Honolulu, he was a retired truck driver and machine operator for Rego Trucking and a U.S. Navy veteran.
He is preceded in death by his father, Wilfred Kaui Sr., and mother, Itsue Kawaguchi Kaui.
He is survived by his wife, Margarite Coller; son, Kevin N.D. Kaui of Kapaa; daughters, Helene Kaui of Kapaa, and Lara Ann (Rory) Ho’omanawanui of Anahola; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Wilfred (Cynthis Edrada) Kaui Jr. of Waimea, Wesley (Trinette) Kaui of Kapaa, Clyde (Darlene) Kaui of Hanamaulu, Steven (Tamlyn) Kaui of Kapaa, and Keith (Elizabeth) Kaui of San Diego; sisters, Sheila Davis of Anahola, Cynthia (Bill) Rapozo of Kapaa, Carolyn (Everett) Ferreira of Kihei, Maui, Corinne (Martin) Curnan of Lihue, and Claire Kaui of Honolulu; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Jan. 7 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kapaa Second Ward (Kapaa Mormon church). Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. with services to begin at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.
All are welcomed to join the family for a celebration of his life at Anahola Beach Park at 3 p.m. following the burial.

Rebecca Kali
Rebecca Kailipau Kali of Hanapepe Valley passed away on Dec. 22, 2016 at the age of 73 in Waimea. She was a retired caregiver with the biggest heart.
She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Kekai Kali Sr.; mother, Lei Kunahio Silva Kali; son, Damien Freitas Sr.; daughter, Sheila Freitas; brothers John H. Young, Richard Ham Young, Jonah Ham Young and Abraham Ham Young; and sisters Clara Kali, and Lei Ham Young Niau.
She is also survived by her son, Delbert (Vanessa) Freitas of Kekaha; daughters Diane (Keith) Delima of Eleele and Nicol (Dean) Nonaka of Hanapepe; nine grandchildren, Keith “KJ” (Alison Katahira) Delima, Kyle “Kainoa” (Keane Palama) Delima, Kell “Kelly Boy” Nonaka, Sandie “Nahe” (Kaeo Howard) Nonaka, Harley “Tita” Nonaka, Kai “Kai Boy” Nonaka; Manase Kahale; Kawika Kahale; and Keanu Freitas; one great-granddaughter, her best friend, Karissa Nonaka Howard who she loved so dearly; brothers Benjamin Kali Sr. of Hanapepe and Robert (Kathleen) Kali Jr. of Hilo; and sisters, Janet Ortiz of Hanapepe and Winifred Kali of Hanapepe; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Consuelo Carinio
Consuelo Carinio, 74, of Kapaa, passed away on Dec. 21 at her home.
Born on Jan. 16, 1942 in Lihue, she was a retired housekeeper.
She is survived by two daughters, Marilou (Trevor) Boone and Diana Carinio; five sons: Barry (Ella) Carinio, Simeon Carinio Jr., Fredinand Carinio, Kirk (Carla) Carinio, Ernesto Alalem; one sister, Dolores Kama; two brothers: Joseph (Andi) Alalem and Timothy (Jan) Alalem; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Jan. 7 at St. Catherine Church in Kapaa from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Cremation will follow.

Alvin ‘Biggie’ Mancao
Alvin “Biggie” Mancao of Lihue passed away at the age of 75 on Dec. 29 in Lihue. Born on Sept. 1, 1941 in Waimea and was a U.S. Army veteran and a team member of Kauai Collision Center.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Alvarez Adams; father, Crispin Mancao; and daughter Angela Georgette Mancao.
He is survived by his sons, Lawrence “Larry” (Rita) Mancao of Everett, Wash. and Alvin Potenciano Mancao of Tacoma, Wash.; grandchildren Anna Mancao, Anthony Mancao, Jordan Mancao and Jacob Mancao; brothers George (Rhiza) Alvarez of Honolulu, Andrew Mancao of Honolulu and Michael Adams of Lihue; sisters, Abigail Ownbey of Chattanooga, Tenn., Angela Triplett of San Diego, Rosalie Diaz, Gloria Kenney of Lihue, Paula (Emerson) Souza of Waiana and Gladys (John) Jacinto of Kaumakani, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Saturday, Jan. 7 at Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai. Visitation will be at 2 p.m. with the remembrance service to begin at 3 p.m.
Casual attire is suggested and flowers are welcomed.

Eleanor Odelia Duarte Almeida
Eleanor Odelia Duarte Almeida of Lihue, formerly of Koloa, passed away peacefully at home with family and friends on Dec. 25 at the age of 91. Born Dec. 12, 1925, Eleanor was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She retired from Kauai Surf.
She was preceded in death by her parents Odelia Duarte and Jacintho Duarte Sr., husband Alfred “Freddie” Almeida Jr., brother, Edwin “Dosha” Duarte, brothers in law Albert Almeida, Joseph Almeida and James Oshita, and sisters in law Margaret Shelton and Charlotte Sherry.
She is survived by two sons, Dennis (Barbara) Almeida of Lihue and Stanley “Bully” (Pat) Almeida of Koloa, and one daughter, Deborah Almeida (Vana Contrades) of Lihue.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, Yvette (Dan) Togikawa, Jennifer (Peter) Morishige, Raquel Almeida and Brad Almeida, and 10 great-grandchildren: Travis (Sarah) Visitacion, Cy Morishige, Leiala Togikawa, Kainalu Almeida-Kaohi, Keani Togikawa, Shylah Ann Almeida-Kaohi, Cienna Morishige, Kaimana Kaohi, Cheyann Morishige and Tarah-Leigh Almeida.
Surviving also are two brothers, Jacintho “Juni” (Carol) Duarte and Raymond (Stella) Duarte, and two sisters, Catherine (Bill) Summers and Gladys Oshita, brother in law Donald (Mary) Quintal, two sisters in law, Ellen Almeida and Lorraine (Ron) Pacheco, and numerous nieces nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on Jan. 21 at St. Raphael Church in Koloa. Family viewing is from 8 to 9 a.m., with public viewing from 9 to 9:45 a.m., with Mass to follow. Burial will follow at St. Raphael Cemetery in Koloa.
The family requests casual attire.
Tatiana Taylor Pomaikai Kaneholani
Tatiana Taylor Pomaikai Kaneholani of San Francisco died at home on Oct. 12 at the age of 55. She was born on Jan. 14, 1961 in Lihue. She was a receptionist, office manager and executive assistant for the Asian and Pacific Islander Wellness Center before liver cancer ended her ability to work.
She grew up in Kapaa. She was a cheerleader at Kapaa High School, attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa and, later, Diego State University, where she received her master’s degree in communications. In 1998 she moved to San Francisco, where she was active in the Hawaiian cultural community and a kumu hula for The Ladies of Passion and Halau Hula ‘O Ke Ala I Ka Pono.
She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Kelii Kaneholani Sr.; mother, Elizabeth Sarah Kaneholani; brothers Herbert, Harry, David, George and Jerry Kaneholani; and sister Rosemary Sanay.
She is survived by her husband Terry (aka: Albert) Ryan of San Francisco; hanai sons Ryan Fuimaono of San Francisco and Ronald Sese of New York City; brothers John (Leila) Kaneholani, Billy Kaneholani, Daniel (Evangaline) Kaneholani and Clement (Sarah) Kaneholani, all of Anahola; sisters, Olinda Higashi of Anahola, Midge Asai and Miriam “Honey Girl” Kupihea of Kapaa, Olandra Kaleiohi of Lihue; sister-in-laws Charolette Kaneholani, Star Kaneholani, Cheryl Kaneholani and Noreen Kaneholani and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14 at Anahola Beach Park. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 a.m., with services to begin at 10 a.m.
