LIHUE — Volunteers are needed to help Kauai Economic Opportunity with its annual homeless census.
At the beginning of every year, Kauai County conducts a point in time survey, where trained volunteers go into different places in the community to survey the homeless population by asking them where they slept the night of Jan. 22.
Surveys will be conducted on the North Shore, Southside, Eastside and Westside through Jan. 23 and Jan. 27.
About 20 people volunteer, but more are welcome.
Debra De Luis, director of Catholic Charities, said KEO could use about 40 additional volunteers so people can go to the same site more than once to reach more people.
Free training is today at the Lihue Civic Center in Piikoi Conference Rooms from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
