LIHUE — A man accused of trying to sexually assault two underage girls will have to wait a week to find out the status of his neuropsychological report.
Eirik Stevens appeared before Judge Randall Valenciano Tuesday on two counts of attempted sexual assault, stemming from an April 2016 arrest.
He is accused of repeatedly attempting to inappropriately touch an 8-year-old girl. In a separate case, the 49-year-old is accused of using treats and snacks to lure a 7-year-old girl into his home, where he sexually assaulted her.
In October, Stevens was deemed fit to proceed with trial by a panel of three doctors.
During Tuesday’s proceedings his attorney, Emmanuel Guerrero, said the doctor in charge of the neuropsychological test, Marvin Acklin, had completed the examination.
“But I have not seen the report,” he said.
Guerrero ordered the test because he believed Stevens does not appreciate the wrongfulness of his actions.
To give the lawyers time to review the findings of the report, Valenciano continued the status hearing a week.
“The purpose of the continuation is to receive the report from Doctor Acklin and we then can best decide how to move forward,” he said.
Stevens will return to court on Jan. 17.
