PUHI — People who want to want their own glazes are running out of time, said Susan Pittman of Clayworks at Kilohana.
“They need to call this week to make arrangements,” Pittman said. “Otherwise, we’ll do the glazing for them.”
Pittman was speaking of people who have been participating in the annual Souper Sunday promotion for many years, and having a collection of bowls from previous events.
“We have been doing this for 22 years,” Pittman said. “As usual, all of the proceeds from this one day go to benefit the Lihue Lutheran Church Mobile Munchies Program to help feed those who need help.”
Souper Sunday takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Clayworks workshop and gallery at the Kilohana Estates.
Participating people donate $30 which includes a handmade, glazed soup bowl filled with a special creation by the chefs at Gaylord’s at Kilohana. The bowl is theirs to keep.
“This gives people lots of time to pick up their soup, enjoy it here, or take it to their National Football League Super Bowl party,” Pittman said. “They can also come in, early, take the bowl with them and return on Feb. 5 with their bowl to pick up their soup.”
Pittman said the Lihue Lutheran Church Mobile Munchies Program distributes more than 400 brown bag meals, weekly throughout the year.
The program services the Boys & Girls Club, Nana’s House in Waimea, Hale Ho‘omalu on the Eastside, the Lihue Town Center, and even Koloa where a lady greets children from the Koloa Elementary School and distributes the Mobile Munchies.
“This is a good cause and we have fun doing it,” Pittman said. “It is so amazing how the community reaches out to help other people. This is such a wonderful place to live.”
