PUHI — Scarlet is a 9-year-old terrier mix who is energetic, full of love and a perfect companion to keep you company on Valentine’s Day during the Kauai Humane Society’s Looking For a One Night Stand event.
It’s a chance for the dogs at KHS to have a sleepover outside of the shelter, and a good time to get a deal if you’re looking to adopt.
The program is akin to the KHS Home for the Holidays program, which sent dogs home over the Christmas holiday.
Eight dogs were adopted through the Home for the Holidays program.
“We want everyone to succeed when adopting an animal. Promotions like ‘Looking for a One Night Stand’ and ‘Home for the Holidays’ allow people to get to truly know the dog outside of the shelter environment. It is a positive opportunity to introduce a dog to a potential future home,” said Esther Rivera, outreach and client services manager.
Pickup times for the event are between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Participants can choose among Scarlet and more than a dozen other dogs up for adoption.
The animals need to be returned on Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., or participants can adopt the dog for $14 — a discount from the regular cost of $60 to $100. A $17, two-year license will still be required by county law.
Also on Tuesday, KHS will have a special Valentine’s Day adoption promotion, adopting out any animals over the age of 7 months for $14.
