Kapaa High School’s varsity girls soccer team lost in the championship match of The Queen’s Medical Center Girls Soccer Championships — Division II state tournament.
The No. 2 seed Warriors fell to the top-seeded Hawaii Prep of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation, 1-nil, Saturday in the Main Stadium of the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex on Oahu.
Hawaii Prep’s Emi Higgins got the match’s lone score at the 31st minute.
Prior to Saturday’s final match, Kapaa defeated Makua Lani of the BIIF in the quarterfinals, 2-0, and then beat No. 3 Pac-Five of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu in the semifinals, 2-1, to earn the school’s first berth in the state championship match since 2009.
The Warriors finish the season with a 13-2 overall record, going 11-1-0 in the regular season en route winning a third consecutive Kauai Interscholastic Federation girls soccer title.
Kapaa varsity girls soccer head coach Mytra McKeague couldn’t be reached for comment Saturday.
For Hawaii Prep, it is the school’s fourth consecutive Division II girls soccer state championship.
En route to the final match, Hawaii Prep beat Sacred Hearts of the ILH in the quarterfinals, 3-2, and then defeated Seabury Hall of the Maui Interscholastic League in the semifinals, 2-1.
Seabury Hall defeated KIF runner-up Kauai High in the opening round on Wednesday, 3-2.
