POIPU — “It’s just once a year,” said Madie Jimenez of Mailelani’s Sunday during the Prince Kuhio celebration weekend at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa. “We come here to offer our goods during the Prince Kuhio celebration.”
Judy Webb, a regular vendor at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, said her coconut creations benefit young women professionals in Samoa.
“It helps young people,” said Oliver Music of Sacramento, California. “Anything to help young people is good.”
The Grand Hyatt Kauai offered several days of celebrating the birth of Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Piikoi who was born in an area near Poipu. A formal protocol ceremony followed by cultural demonstrations, craft fair, and luau highlighted the offering honoring the “Citizen Prince.”
