The Kalaheo Neighborhood Center will bristle with activity starting Thursday when the County of Kauai Department of Parks and Recreation hosts the Kauai Senior Games Pickleball Tournament.
Jack Hodges, USA Pickleball Association Hawaii District Ambassador, said there will be 85 doubles teams in the women’s division on Thursday, the mixed division on Friday, and the men’s division Saturday. Participants are aged 50 and over and come from Oahu, Maui, the Big Island, California, Arizona, Nevada, Minnesota, and Florida.
Hodges said this is the second consecutive year Kauai has been selected to host the tournament after pickleball was admitted to the Hawaii Senior Games in 2015. The inaugural tournament was held in Kona, with several Kauai teams and individuals earning medals.
When the tournament opens Thursday, Kauai will field 53 players from Princeville, Kapaa, Wailua, Lihue, Koloa, Poipu, Kalaheo, Eleele, Hanapepe, Waimea, and Kekaha.
The tournament starts at 8 a.m. each day. It is free.
