LIHUE — Registrations for spring Learn to Swim classes and camp are still being accepted.
Classes include Ohana-Keiki, or infants 6 months to 35 months; Tiny Tots, which includes youngsters 3 and 4 years old; and the Learn to Swim classes for young people ages 5 years and older.
The Learn to Swim program is presented by Mokihana Aquatics and the County of Kauai, with classes at the Kauai High School pool with the exception of Wednesdays, when classes in ocean safety move to the north end of Kalapaki Beach.
Class sizes are limited in the Ohana-Keiki program, which requires swimmers’ providers to be in the water with the babies, and the Tiny Tots programs.
“This is an important skill people should have,” said Maddie Hoesel, a Learn to Swim instructor who swam for Kapaa High School and participated in the recent Hawaii High School Athletic Association state swim meet.
“With the ocean all around us, it’s about safety.”
The classes that coincide with the public schools’ spring break will be held from 1 to 1:30 p.m. for session one, 1:45 to 2:15 p.m. for session two, and 2:30 to 3 p.m. for the third session, Monday through Thursday.
Learn to Swim classes are held on weekdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m.
