Dick Lowry Wright
Dick Lowry Wright of Kalaheo died peacefully at home on Feb. 23, at the age of 77.
He was born in Oklahoma City on June 1, 1939, and a good friend of Bill W. for 44 years.
Before retirement, he was pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Elko, Nev. Earlier in Minneapolis, Minn., he was a chemical dependency counselor and headed his own law firm. After retirement in 2006, he became pastor emeritus of Lihue Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ammon and Helen Wright, and by his sister Carolyn Wright.
He is survived by his wife Liedeke Bulder of Kalaheo, daughter Elaine (Sam) Larsen of Nichols Hills, Okla., sister Barbara Arrington of Lubbock, Texas, stepsons Marcos Larson of Illinois, Jim (Kelly) McIntyre of Oakland and Steven (Kim) McIntyre of Savage, Minn., and by granddaughters Emily Stack of Austin, Texas, and Storm Larson of Peoria, Ill.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 26, at 3 p.m. at Lihue Lutheran Church.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lihue Lutheran Church Mobile Munchies program or to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.

Felix Domingo Lazo
Felix Domingo Lazo of Kapaa passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on Feb. 24 at the age of 78. He was born in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on Feb. 21, 1939, and retired as an accountant with Kauai Resort Hotel.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lorenzo and Anacleta Lazo.
He is survived by his wife, Nenita Salud Lazo of Kapaa, daughter Sudim S. (Brian Magdy) Lazo of Virginia, sons Soliman S. Lazo and Verlinus S. Lazo, both of Oahu, brothers Rodrigo (Luzviminda) Lazo, Julio (Rose) Lazo and Danilo (Lynda) Lazo, sister Josefa (Rogelio) Alejo, all of Oahu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 25 at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall, with viewing from 9 a.m. and services celebrated at 11 a.m.
Funeral services will also be held on Tuesday, March 28 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary on Oahu, with viewing from 9 a.m. and services beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Valley of the Temples on Oahu at noon.

Doris Jean Kaye
Doris Jean Kaye of Kapaa peacefully passed away on Feb. 24. She was born in Albany, N.Y. on Jan. 11, 1927, and was a retired radiology technician.
She was preceded in death by her eldest daughter Nancy Kaye Becker.
She is survived by daughter Nina Summers of Oahu, son Adam (Kanani) Kaye of Kauai, five grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 25 at the Ko‘olau Hui‘ia Church at 4095 Kealia Rd. in Anahola.
The family graciously declines flowers and requests aloha attire.

Lucena Rosqueta Nacnac
Lucena Rosqueta Nacnac of Eleele passed away on March 9 at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 71. Born on Sept. 26, 1945 in Dingras, Ilocos Norte in the Philippines, she was a retired housekeeper.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eugenio Nacnac Sr., parents Pascual Rosqueta and Leonila Nacnac Rosqueta, and brothers Arturo Rosqueta Sr. and Generosa Rosqueta.
She is survived by her sons Alejo Nacnac of Eleele, Eugenio (Cheris) Nacnac Jr. of Lihue and Edwin (Melinda) Nacnac of Honolulu, three grandchildren, Mason Nacnac, Ryan Nacnac and Alyssa Nacnac, sister Edna R. Soliven of the Philippines, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, March 25, at the Hanapepe Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be from 8 to 9 a.m. with services beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Hanapepe Public Cemetery.

Florence Arruda Carvalho
Florence Arruda Carvalho, formerly of Kealia, passed away on Feb. 23 at Maryville Hospital in Beaverton, Ore., at the age of 89. She was born on Sept. 5, 1927, in Kealia.
She was preceded in death by husband Ernest Souza Carvalho, son Clifford G. Carvalho, parents Manuel Sr. and Mary Rente Arruda, brothers Manuel Jr., Antone, Joseph, John and Henry, sisters Mary (Joseph) Rapozo, Jennie (Jackie) Rapozo, Helen (Alfonso) Fial, Lydia (Jimmy) Rodrigues and Bernice (Eddie) Braun.
She is survived by daughter Charlene (Carmen) Failla of Beaverton, Ore., daughter-in-law Puanani (Clifford) Carvalho of Kapaa, sister-in-law Alice (Henry) Arruda of Lihue, granddaughter Leilani (Nick) Seau, grandsons Scott and Chad Failla and Makana Carvalho, seven great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 24, at St. Catherine Church. Visitation is from 9 a.m., with Mass from 10 top 11 a.m. Burial will be held at a later date. A celebration of life luncheon will follow the Mass.
Tamotsu ‘Tamo’ Takamura
Tamotsu “Tamo” Takamura of Lawai passed away at home on March 11, at the age of 86. Born on Nov. 5, 1930 in Waimea, he was a retired carpenter for Gay & Robinson and a U.S. Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Janiel, parents Jutari and Yukie Takamura, sisters Tsuruko Takamura and Masuko Ijima and brothers Shigeyuki Takamura, Mitsuo Takamura and Tomeichi Takamura.
He is survived by his wife Janet Takamura, son Robin Takamura of Kaneohe, son-in-law Kanani Malama, daughter Tammy Takamura of Hanapepe, daughter-in-law Amanda Lamcambra of Oahu, grandchildren Kitana Takamura, Dillon Takamura, Tristan “Pomai” (MacArthur) Delacruz, Kailan (Tiana) Malama, Jaecie (Javin Balisican) Malama and Keanu Malama, great-grandchildren Mikaylah Jade Schoenberg, Kieran Sage Schoenberg, Nevaeh-Lehua Malama, Teivan Delacruz, Kingsley Balisican, Baelee-Rose Delacruz and Meliyah-Grace Delacruz, brothers Yukio Takamura of Oahu and Glenn Takamura of California, sisters Jean Komori of Oahu and Sally Okada of Kekaha, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Teodora Yasay
Teodora Yasay of Lihue passed away on Kauai at the age of 89 on March 1. Born on Nov. 9, 1927 on Kauai, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her son Roger Cortez, parents Teodoro Miguel and Laudencia Salvador Miguel, stepfather Tiburcio Ramos, and brothers Florentino “Floyd” Miguel, Jose Miguel and Antomino Miguel.
She is survived by her sons Davis Cortez, Richard Cortez, Patrick Cortez, Clifford Cortez, Rudy Yasay, Ernest Yasay, Jimmy Yasay, Edwin Yasay, Gideon Yasay, Ruben Yasay and Kelson Yasay, daughters Norma Cortez, Debbie Leikvoll, Marion Morita and Marina Martinez, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and sisters Fortunate Cabotungan of Hilo and Flora Espiritu.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 25, at The Salvation Army church in Lihue. Services will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Shiloh Roshan Simbre-Medeiros of Kekaha passed away at the age of 18 on March 11 in Poipu. Born on Jan. 20, 1999 in Lihue, he was working at Eleele McDonald’s in the food service industry.
He is survived by his parents Wayne A. Medeiros and Shirley R. Simbre-Medeiros, birth parents Shirlet Abergas and Steven Saflor, brothers Scott Simbre-Medeiros of Las Vegas, Cyrus Simbre-Medeiros of Hohenfels, Germany, Shayne Simbre-Medeiros of Kekaha, Johnnie Simbre of Hanapepe and Francis Abergas of Oahu, sisters Erica Santiago-Abergas of Puhi, Courtney Espiritu Rapozo of Lihue, Jessica Giron-Abergas of Makakilo, Oahu, Shelsy Simbre-Medeiros of Kekaha, Laorencia Abergas of Kekaha and Alicia Abergas-Spriggs of Wailua, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Stella Trinidad Kaiulani Lindsey Duarte, 76, of Puhi, passed away on March 8 at Wilcox Medical Center.
Born on Jan. 25, 1941 in Lihue, she was a sales clerk at WalMart.
She was preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Victoria Lindsey, daughter Rae Ella Duarte, brothers Edwin, Stanford and Silas Lindsey, and sister Vicky Lindsey.
She is survived by her husband Raymond R. Duarte, son Raymond K. (Theresa) Duarte, sisters Healani Mandrigues and Debbie (Kula) Schumacher, grandchildren Jessica (Kaeo) Tai, Lindsey Duarte and Raymond M. Duarte, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, March 29 at the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints Lihue Ward at 4580 Ehiku St. from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., where services will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
Private inurnment will be held at a later time. The family suggests casual attire, and requests that flowers be omitted. Lei are welcome.

Dana Kuapahi of Hanapepe Valley, born on Dec. 29, 1968 in Waimea, passed away at the age of 48 on March 4, at Kauai Veteran’s Memorial Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his father Leialoha Kuapahi Sr., father-in-law Howell Kaleohano Sr., and grandmother Kiyono Ho‘okano.
He is survived by his daughter Harley-Lei (Kaimana Prem) Kuapahi of Hanapepe, hanai daughters Tehani-Li of Hanapepe and Nikita-Lynn of Kalaheo, granddaughters Kailey-Ann, Brin-Lee and Niah-Mae, mother Arlene Kuapahi of Waimea, mother-in-law Betty Kaleohano of Hanapepe, aunts Leiala Ho‘okano of Oahu, Carol Furtado of Lawai and Keiko Furtado of Las Vegas, brothers Leialoha (Amy) Kuapahi Jr. of Washington, Oric Kuapahi of Kekaha, Klaine Kuapahi of Waimea, Ivan (Monica) Kuapahi of Arizona, Bully (Dez) Koani of Oahu, Kapu Koani of Oahu and Nephi Gonzales of Oahu, sisters Wai (LB) Kuapahi of Waimea, Keala Werner Kuapahi of Hanapepe, Leona (Harlen) Fragas of Hilo and Napua Koani of Oahu, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Catherine Marie Caycayon of Lihue passed away at home on Feb. 7 at the age of 75. She was born in Oregon on Nov. 28, 1941, and retired as an accountant with Hawaiian Airlines.
She was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Damien Victorino Sr.
She is survived by her daughter Cindra (Michael) Manera Sr., of Lihue, grandchildren Tiana Manera and Mikey Manera of Lihue, brother William (Barbara) Leighton of Oregon, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, March 24, at Immaculate Conception Church, with visitation from 8:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m.

Jeffery Schumacher
Jeffery H. Schumacher passed away at the age of 59 in Lihue on March 7. He was born on June 29, 1957 in Lihue and was an inspector and construction manager for the state Department of Transportation Airports Division at Lihue Airport.
He was preceded in death by his father Carl W. Schumacher Jr. and brother Gene L. Schumacher.
He is survived by his mother Ululani J.P. Schumacher, brother Carl (Annie) W. Schumacher III, nephew, Kyle A. Schumacher and grand-niece Skye L. Schumacher.
A worship service will be held on Saturday, April 1, at Lihue Parish Hall, 4340 Nawiliwili Rd., behind King Auto Center.
Visitation for the family is at 8 a.m., and for friends at 9 a.m., with services at 10 a.m. Private inurnment will be held at a later time.

Oscar Canciller Portugal
Oscar Canciller Portugal of Lihue passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on March 17 at the age of 71. He was born on March 1, 1946, and retired from the County of Kauai as county surveyor.
He was preceded in death by his parents Godofredo and Josefa Canciller Portugal, and brothers Romeo and Gilfredo Portugal.
He is survived by his wife Anabel Portugal, daughter Jennifer (Stephen) Sandrowski of Lihue, son Prince (Michelle) Portugal of Las Vegas, grandchildren Christian, Ka’Ayla and Keeanu, brothers, Cesar (Carmen) Portugal of Lihue and Jose (Sonia) Portugal of California, sisters Grace Portugal Perdigon of the Philippines and Maria (Robert) Warner of Honolulu, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, March 27 at Immaculate Conception Church in Lihue, with viewing from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Kazu Nicholas Hulu Taniguchi
Kazu Nicholas Hulu Taniguchi Jr., of Pakala, passed away on Thursday, March 16. He was 75. He worked and retired as a field luna (supervisor) for the Gay & Robinson Sugar for 38 years.
He was preceded in death by his son Shane Nicholas Hulu Taniguchi, sisters Miriam Taniguchi, Elizabeth “Liz” Kaohelauli‘i and Elena Kamala.
He is survived by his wife Aurelia Miguel Taniguchi, brothers Feliciano Vea, Michael Hanohano Vea and Sunny Boy Vea, sisters Anita Lewis and Mary Ann Kanahele, daughters Shalamae “Tootie” (Mac Layaoen), Melodie (Aurel Domingo), and Stacie Ku‘ulei (Brandon Caires), nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Borthwick Mortuary in Koloa on Saturday, April 8, viewing from 9 to 11 a.m., and service and burial to follow.
