KAPAA — Trailing 9-8 in the sixth inning, Kapaa erupted for 11 runs on eight hits to take a 19-9 win over Kauai High School Wednesday at the Kapaa High School softball field.
The game, which spanned nearly three hours, was called on the 10-run ruling in the sixth inning when Jazmin Kaleiohi whacked into a 2-RBI shot, pushing Kendra Kupihea across the plate for the game-ending run.
The Warriors finished with 14 hits led by Leipua Kaui and Tyra Alao, each batter finishing with a triple and a pair of singles. Kapaa also whacked triples by Tia Takasaki, Sabrina Telles-Kelekoma, Kaleiohi, and Seiena Morita, who also conked a double in the sixth inning.
Dreanalyn Tafiti hit a solo home run to open the fifth inning and was the leading hitter for Kauai. Kahela Nishikawa-Chandler and Tia Rego each doubled, and Katelyn Kuhlmann singled.
With the victory, Kapaa Coach Francis Takasaki and the Warriors head to Waimea for a doubleheader against the Menehune at the Waimea Canyon Park starting at 2 p.m. Saturday.
