KOLOA — Rotary Club of Poipu Beach recently completed a service project resulting in a $10,000 grant from the Harry and Jeannette Weinberg Foundation.
Twenty-nine volunteers painted three park pavilions and picnic tables at Salt Pond Beach Park.
“I am happy to see this project come to fruition. The main reason I joined Rotary was to give back to the community,” said Rotarian Rodney Pascua. “It was great to do a hands-on project amongst fellow Rotarians and friends”.
The Weinberg Friends Grant is provided by the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation. This program allows a service organization to perform a community service project. Upon completion of the project, the Weinberg Foundation provides a $10,000 grant to an organization that the club nominates that serves the poor and needy.
The Boys and Girls Club of Kauai is the recipient of the grant and will use the donation for scholarships for students as well as to purchase supplies and equipment.
“This was a fun way to help to beautify the park and help others at the same time,” said Club President Chris Young.
The project included Rotarians, friends, family, and staff and members of the Boys and Girls Club of Kauai,
Ed Speyer of Speyer Painting did the prep work; La Spezia Restaurant and Amaize, Inc. provided refreshments. The County of Kauai Department of Parks and Recreation supplied the paint and equipment.
The next Weinberg Project will be on May 27 at Salt Pond Beach Park, where the club will paint two more pavilions.
