Visitors love Kauai, WTC
My wife and I are 11-year-returning Canadian snowbirds, almost ready to go home. We love Kauai for its beauty, its true aloha spirit and, really, everything about this island. We stay about two months. It’s grown considerably longer since our first visit.
We extended our visit six years ago to include the Waimea Town Celebration. We love it, too, and do our best to attend every unique event, beginning with the film festival. My wife finds it difficult to drive back home to our condo on Lawai Road after 12 nonstop hours of watching movies!
I especially enjoy the rodeo, the horses and riders are equal to or superior to the very best in North America. As well, the Hawaiian events, I believe, focus on horsemanship and roping skills. They are definitely easier on the animals than North American events.
My wife especially enjoys the film festival, the outrigger canoes and the Niihau ladies with their beautiful shell jewelry exhibits.
We both enjoy the fast and the furious ball games with their skilled players — it’s a real Kauai family event! We enjoy the bandstand music as well, with its talented entertainers.
But I’m also writing about TGI. What a fine, impartial, remarkable little daily newspaper! We subscribe to it as soon as we arrive. We read the entire newspaper each day, the same as some other tourists we know. There won’t be any fake news in this paper. Its reporting and stories exude authenticity and veracity
Last Sunday’s view by (TGI editor) Bill Buley about TGI reporters really struck a note with us. We believe the six TGI reporters are, in Bill Buley’s words, “committed, dedicated and relentless.” A great write-up, including background about each of them.
Aloha and mahalo.

Waioli Corporation serves this community well
This letter addresses some misinformation provided recently in a letter to the editor.
Many on Kauai already know that Waioli Corporation is a nonprofit organization which operates museums and preserves theunique properties it owns. Waioli was originally started in 1952 as Waioli Mission and owns the 595-acre ahupua‘a property atLepeuli.
In the late 1970s, Waioli generously gave a subdivided parcel of land at Lepeuli to the County of Kauai to establish a road, parking lot and beach-access trail in the area for the community. When the trail was deemed too difficult for some users inmore recent years, the addition of a subsequent easement in the area was approved by Waioli for access to the beach.
Waioli Corporation clearly considers public interest and access important matters. Waioli Coporation is very pleased DerekKawakami has agreed to serve on its Board of Trustees. Mr. Kawakami is a fourth-generation Kauai resident who grew up inLihue near the Grove Farm Homestead, sometimes playing on the property as a child. Waioli is fortunate to have someonewith his experience and knowledge join the organization’s board.
