1 injured after tractor trailer flips

KAPAIA – A tractor- trailer flipped onto its side Wednesday morning along Ma’alo Road.

The accident occurred near the Kuhio Highway junction at approximately 9:40 a.m.

The 57-year-old male driver was trapped and had to be extricated from the truck. He was taken to Wilcox Hospital to be treated for non threatening injures. 

According to police, the semi was heading south on the roadway, when it crossed the center line, struck and un-attended vehicle that was parked along the northbound shoulder, causing the trailer to flip on its side. 

Ma‘alo Road was closed until approximately 3 p.m. while crews worked to bring the tractor-trailer upright and remove the parked vehicle, which had crashed into a ravine.
