POIPU — The public is invited to celebrate Prince Kuhio’s birthday at Prince Kuhio Park in Poipu on Saturday at 10 a.m.
The Prince Kuhio Celebration is designed to complement and extend the commemorative ceremonies traditionally organized and implemented by the Royal Order of Kamehameha.
The celebration will provide an educational experience that will establish a strong sense of awareness about the influence and importance of Prince Kuhio (as well as his ancestors) on Hawaiian society to both the resident and visitor communities, according to event organizers.
At 5 p.m., the Grand Hyatt Resort & Spa will showcase a torch lighting ceremony and hula dancing at Seaview Terrace.
On Sunday, Tsunami Taiko drummers will entertain the crowd at the Hyatt’s lobby atrium at 9 a.m.
At the Hyatt’s Ilima and Stevenson’s Foyer, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., a craft fair will be held to cap off the weekend celebration.
