HANAPEPE — Wednesday’s scheduled Kauai Interscholastic Federation varsity baseball game between Kapaa and Waimea high schools was postponed.
The game was canceled because of unfavorable field conditions following Tuesday’s storm, said Waimea High varsity baseball head coach Larry Ephan.
“I went down there this morning at about 10 o’clock. The field was saturated and puddling all over the place,” Ephan said. “It was a safety issue.”
The game has been rescheduled for 3:30 p.m. today at Hanapepe Stadium.
Ephan said the team did not have practice Wednesday because the practice field is soaked as well.
“Waimea Field is underwater. So, we’re just going to have to wait it out for tomorrow,” he said.
Kapaa (1-1 KIF) split the season-opening doubleheader with Kauai High (1-1) on Saturday — Kauai winning the first game, 2-1, and Kapaa winning the second game in extra innings, 9-8.
Waimea will be making its KIF regular season debut.
“I knew going into the season that both teams are talented,” Ephan said. “With the games being that close, it just adds for great baseball for the next month on the island. We just hope we can go out there and compete as well.”
