Thomas Patrick Contrades
The Rev. Deacon Thomas Patrick Contrades of Kapaa died on Feb. 24, 2017, at the age of 67. He was born in Lihue on Aug. 28, 1949. He was a deacon for the Diocese of Honolulu assigned to St. Raphael Church in Koloa, chaplain for the Kauai Police Department and a retired business agent for the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU). He served on several government commissions, including the County of Kauai Planning Commission, the Hawaiian Homes Commission and the state Land Use Commission. He was also a volunteer with the Kauai United Way, Hale Opio, Kauai Ecomonic Opportunity, Na Kupaa O Kuhio and the Boy Scouts of America.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dora and Joseph K. Contrades Jr., brother Maurice Coopman Contrades and grandson Thomas Patrick Leines.
He is survived by his wife Jacquelyn Contrades, children Michael (Darlene) Contrades, Elisabeth (Dayne) Tomori, Jennifer (Joshua) Leines, Timothy (Melissa) Contrades, Tyrus (Erica) Contrades and Jessica Contrades (Brianna Borrero), hanai children Rozlyn Ladera and Kehaulani Ching, grandchildren Micah Contrades, Courtney Contrades, Joseph Contrades, Brennen Contrades, Tyzen Contrades, Lucy Leines, Gavin Leines, Mahealani Huddy, Koa Yamamoto and Kailani Yamamoto, siblings Stanley (Jean Yim) Contrades, Patricia Happek, Monica Contrades, Susan (Dennis) Brooks, Therese Staszkow, Annette (Steven) Manaday, Robert Contrades and Lisa Curtin.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 4 at St. Raphael Church in Koloa. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. with services to follow at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be held at St. Raphael’s Church cemetery following the service.

Veronica Cadiz Cachola
Veronica Cadiz Cachola of Lihue passed away at home on Jan. 26, at the age of 79. She was born in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on Jan. 16, 1938, and retired from Lihue Airport as a security guard.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arcadio Cachola.
She is survived by her husband Rodrigo “Rudy” Racho, sons Nestor Cachola and Edward Cachola, grandsons Kaimalu Cachola and Kenji Cachola, brothers Eulalio Cadiz, Melecio (Crecencia) Cadiz and Irineo (Berna) Cadiz, sisters Alfreda V. (Nemecio) Cadiz, Trifonia C. Bolosan, Nena C. (Victor) Pescador and Carmen C. Cadiz, and numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 11 at Lihue United Church, with viewing from 8 a.m. and services at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Philip ‘Ipe’ Sahagon Labrador
Philip “Ipe” Sahagon Labrador of Kapaa passed away on Feb. 10 at the age of 72. Born on July 10, 1944 in the Philippines, he was an automotive body repairman and mechanic for Grove Farm.
He was preceded in death by Leandra Bartolome, Carmen Vicinte and Ines Labrador Lazaro, and his parents Teresa (Sahagon) Labrador and Ciriaco Labrador.
He is survived by daughters Aileen (Travis) Talbo of Lawai and Jayleen (Aaron) Labrador of Kekaha, grandson Jaymar Labrador-Caban, brothers Christian (Rosabila) Labrador of Puhi and Jose (Carlita) Labrador of Lihue, sisters Cenona (Elico) Acob of Kapaa and Fabiana (Emilio) Guerrero of California, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 4 at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. with services beginning at 11 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Rodolfo Hilario Agustin
Rodolfo Hilario Agustin of Puhi passed away in Wilcox Medical Center on Feb. 17 at the age of 77. He was born in Camiling, Tarlac, Philippines on July 15, 1939, and retired from Lihue Plantation.
He was preceded in death by his parents Crisanto and Petronila Agustin, and brother Crisanto Agustin Jr.
He is survived by his wife Luz Agustin, sons Rolando (Leah-Lei) Agustin of Puhi, Randy (Kristine Aguon) Agustin of Honolulu, Oliver (Chelsey Heidenfeldt) Agustin of Hilo, Darren (Alana) Agustin of Eleele, four grandchildren, sisters Remedios (Paul) Arellano of Koloa, Perla (Adolfo) Yago of Hanamaulu, Estella (Ferdinand) Caoagas of Wailua, Evelyn (Bill) Villasin of San Diego, Leticia (Lee) Dooney of San Diego, sister-in-law Alanna Agustin of Hanamaulu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A wake service will be held on Friday, March 3 at Kauai Veterans Center, with viewing from 6 to 9 p.m.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 4, at Immaculate Conception Church, with viewing from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Waynard E.K. Awong
Waynard E.K. Awong of Koloa passed away on Feb. 16 at Wilcox Medical Center. Born in Honolulu on Jan. 18, 1963, he was a groundkeeper with Ho‘onani Landscaping.
He was preceded in death by his father John Awong Jr., and sister Johnelle Awong.
He is survived by his wife Noralynn L. Awong of Koloa, son Carley K. Awong of Utah, stepsons Joshua K. Dasalia-Soto of Kapaa, Charles F. Soto III of Kapaa and Eusebio T. Dasalia-Soto of Koloa, stepdaughter Zaelynn K. Soto of Kapaa, mother Aileen “Rocky” Gaza of Honolulu, brothers John (Catherine) Awong III of Mililani, Henry (Hazel) Awong of Kapaa, Carlyle (Shari) Awong of Las Vegas and Alston K. Awong of Ewa Beach, sister Charlotte (Neal) Caballero of Honolulu and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held on March 8 at Koloa Missionary Church at 1 p.m., with services beginning at 2 p.m. and a celebration of his life to follow.

Shizuko Y. Emoto
Shizuko Y. Emoto passed away peacefully on Feb. 17 at the age of 93. Born in Waimea on Jan. 1, 1924, she was a retired dental assistant.
She was preceded in death by parents Shuzo and Kikuno Watanabe Yamaoka, sister Dorothy Yamaguchi and brother Masakazu Yamaoka.
She is survived by husband Masanori Emoto, son Jeffrey (Gail) Emoto, daughter Donna (James) Fuji, grandchildren Ashley (Kevin) Newton, Joel Fuji, Jacie Emoto, Lyndi (Damon Chong) Emoto-Chong and Tad (Desiree) Fuji, seven great-grandchildren, Hope Newton, Lucy Newton, Noah Chong, Willow Chong, Keala Ching, Teyah Fuji and Tawena Fuji .
Private services were held.

Elena Elaine Seals
Elena Elaine Seals of Lihue passed away on Kauai at the age of 68 on Feb. 20. She was born on Oahu on Feb. 21, 1948, and was a pastor.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Cheryl Moana Marie Medina.
She is survived by her sons John C. (Linda) Davis, Julian P. (Kehau) Davis, Philip J. (Angie) Davis and Larry J. Davis, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother Art Pavao and sister Bernie Vierra.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, March 11, at the Aloha Church in Lihue from 9 to 10 a.m. Services will begin at 10 a.m. followed by burial at Lihue Public Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested and flowers are welcomed.
