PORT ALLEN — Kauai Police Department closed access to the Port Allen Marina Tuesday afternoon following a phone call notifying one of the tenants of a bomb planted somewhere in the building.
“Sometime near 2 p.m., an employee with the Blue Dolphin Tours received a phone call advising of a bomb planted somewhere in the building,” said Tom Shigemoto, an A&B Hawaii vice president. “She immediately notified us and Trinette Kaui of A&B Properties and myself went door to door in the shopping center to evacuate the building.”
Kauai Police Department officers and detectives did a thorough search of the suspected areas in the entire building, Shigemoto said.
In the meantime, the tenant businesses and their customers were re-located to an area across the street of Port Allen Marina.
“The tour companies did a good job of notifying their customers of the incident and the resulting change of plans,” Shigemoto said. “A lot of them were in the crowd across the street, but they managed to find each other. There was some confusion with the tours who were returning to port because they had no idea of what was happening, but we took care of them, safely.”
He said luckily there were no injuries reported from the incident.
“It was just a lot of inconvenience for a lot of people (the Kauai Bus Stop was relocated to the entrance of the former bowling alley during the investigation),” Shigemoto said. “And, business disruption.”
No bombs or explosives were located and no injuries were reported, according to a release from Kauai Police Department, and the scene was cleared at approximately 4:15 p.m.
Kauai Police Dept. is investigating the incident.
