Toddler in Kealia traffic crash dies
LIHUE — Kauai Police confirmed a third fatality as a result of Friday’s traffic crash in Kealia. Two-year-old Kawainakoa Camat died Sunday morning at Queen’s Hospital on Oahu.
His 28-year-old mother remains at Queen’s Hospital in critical condition.
Shortly before 9 a.m. Friday, a Nissan Cube was heading south on Kuhio Highway, fronting the St. Catherine Cemetery, when it apparently crossed the center line and crashed into an oncoming delivery truck.
The driver, Markis Carveiro, 28, of Kapaa, died at the scene. His backseat passenger, Ashley Gorospe, 26, of Kapaa, was pronounced dead at Wilcox Hospital.
The mother and son were in the backseat of the Cube.
The driver of the delivery truck, 54, of Kapaa, did not report any serious injuries.
The investigation continues.
