LIHUE — A man who was arrested last year with a package of Schedule 1 drugs in his car pleaded no contest to the charges against him.
Donovan Cameron-Ray, 22, appeared in front of judge Kathleen Watanabe Tuesday on six counts of drug charges — promoting a dangerous drug 2, three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, promoting a harmful drug in the third degree and promoting a dangerous drug in the third degree.
As part of a plea agreement, the state dismissed four charges. Cameron-Ray pleaded no contest to promoting a dangerous drug 2 and promoting a harmful drug in the third degree.
Promoting a dangerous drug 2 is punishable by 10 years in prison. Promoting a harmful drug is the third degree is punishable by up to five years in prion.
Cameron-Ray originally pleaded not guilty, but filed a motion to change his plea.
He was arrested in May 2016 after a postal inspector alerted Kauai police of a parcel containing drugs was set to be delivered to a home on Olohena Road.
Police say Cameron-Ray later received the package at his home, and had it in his possession when he was stopped by police near Kukui Street.
He is accused of carrying 198 Ecstasy pills, 300 Xanax bars and 2.6 grams of cocaine.
The total estimated street value of the items seized by KPD is $5,250.
Cameron-Ray is expected to be sentenced on Aug. 16.
