Wayne Masamitsu Amii
Wayne Masamitsu Amii passed away at the age of 69 on March 31, 2017, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. Born on July 25, 1947, in Honolulu, he retired as a lead customer service representative with Avis/Budget Rental Car.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Elaine Morishige; step-father, Walter Morishige; and father, Alfred Amii.
Wayne is survived by his daughters, Rachelle Benevides of the Big Island, Cheryl (Keone) Garma of Lihue, and Brittan (Soheyl) Amii of San Diego; hanai son, Cory Kaneshiro of Huntington Beach, California; grandchildren: Raquela Benevides, Rikki Benevides, Devin Gouveia of the Big Island, Krystian Garma, Caylee Garma of Lihue, Arlen Hatamitajik, and Mika Hatamitajik of San Diego; great-grandchildren: Kiara Martin, and Blaze Bento of the Big Island; brother, Albert (Alice) Amii of Honolulu; sisters, Eunice (Willy) Ugale of Mililani, O’ahu and Myra Uyehara of Maui; along with numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 to 11 a.m. with services to begin at 11 a.m.
Casual attire is suggested.

Vernon Tasaka
Vernon “Sonny” Tasaka of Wailua passed away at Garden Isle Health Care on March 27, 2017, at the age of 88. He was the owner of David’s Body & Fender Shop on Kapaia. He was born in Hanalei on Oct. 29, 1928.
Vernon was preceded in death by his wife Florence Tasaka and his parents Kenichi and Asayo Tasaka.
Vernon is survived by four daughters: Sheri Baker of California, Nina Tasaka of Wailua, Donna Tasaka (Wayne) Moore of South Carolina and one hanai daughter Shawna Okami-Rose Hill of Nevada. five grandchildren; Karlina Tasaka of Wailua, Das Baker of California, Wayne Moore Jr., Kaitlyn and Kyle Moore of South Carolina. Seven great-grandchildren; Kaylin Espada-Tasaka, Kaleomana Tasaka, Roselynn, Christopher & Micah Rapozo, all of Wailua. Brooke and Graysin Moore of South Carolina.
Vernon is also survived by two sisters; Shinae Tasaka of Hanalei, Winona Yoshida of Oahu and one brother, Clyde Tasaka of Wailua and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Vernon’s life will be held on Friday, May 12, 2017, at Lydgate Pavilion. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. to noon with the service to follow.
Casual attire is suggested and flowers to be omitted. Leis are welcome.

Alice Akiko Oshita of Lihue passed away at home on March 27, at the age of 86. She was born in Hawaii on Nov. 21, 1930, and retired from Macy’s.
Preceded in death by her husband, Koichi Oshita; brothers, Isao, Kenchi, Toshio and Mitsuo Kagehiro; sisters, Janet Kagehiro and baby sister Kagehiro.
Alice is survived by four children, Noreen Roy, Bridgette Lynne Oshita, Lennet Ken Oshita, Alcyne (Stephen) Chung; 3 grandchildren, Kathryn (Noel) Roy Asuncion, Sierra Pilialoha Chung, Sereney Chung; great grandson, Joshua Asuncion; brother, Hisa (Choko) Kagehiro; numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 6, at Aloha Church with visitation from 9 a.m. and services celebrated at 10 a.m. with refreshments to follow.

Chelsey-Lynn Wahineui Okekai passed away on April 3, 2017, at the age of 28. She was born on Oct. 24, 1988, at Wilcox Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandmother Victoria Kelau Lindsey, great-grandfather Edwin Pele Lindsey, grandfather Elmer Joseph Mandrigues, grandfather Wayne “Masa” Camat, great-grandmother Georgina Carvalho, son, Kawai Nakoa Kamakanamaikalani Camat.
She is survived by her father Duwayne Camat, mother Glynis Camat, sister Ashley Camat (Kaimana Fu), brother Kekoa Camat, children, Pookela Camat-Kameenui, Kaileia Camat-Kameenui, Paitutu Camat-Kameenui, grandmother Healani Mandrigues, grandmother Yvonne Camat and numerous aunties, uncles, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Wailua Homesteads Park. Visitation with the family will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Services will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Luncheon to follow. Ashes to be thrown at a later date.

Kawai Nakoa Kamakanamaikalani Camat passed away on April 4, 2017. He was born on Nov. 29, 2014, at Wilcox Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his mother Chelsey-Lynn Wahineui Okekai Lindsey Camat Perreira, great great-grandmother Victoria Kelau Lindsey, great great-grandfather Edwin Pele Lindsey, great grandfather Elmer Joseph Mandrigues and great grandfather Wayne “Masa” Camat.

Lucky Afasa Talaotu Thompson
Lucky Afasa Talalotu Thompson was born on Nov. 29, 1922, in Pago Pago, American Samoa. He passed away peacefully on April 22, 2017, at Mahelona Hospital in Kapaa with his children at his side.
Lucky loved music and dancing and in the early 1960’s, he played guitar in a small combo in places like the Cock’s Roost at the International Marketplace in Waikiki, and on Matson Lines cruise ships (the S. S. Lureline, Malolo, and Mariposa) when they were docked at Honolulu Harbor. He also worked on those same docks for 27 years as a Chief Clerk with Young Brothers, Ltd.
Lucky was preceded in death by his parents, Suluoleava and Talalotu, and numerous brothers and sisters. Lucky is the last of his generation in his large, loving and faithful family.
He is survived by his children, Mr. Lucky (Grace) Thompson of Las Vegas, Nevada, and the Rev. Jeannie Thompson of Kapaa, Hawaii; three grandchildren: Marcus (Ashlynn) Ua-Thompson, Laura Thompson of Hilo, Hawaii, and Shana Thompson of Honolulu, Hawaii; and four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at Kapaa United Church of Christ on Friday, May 5. Visitation starts at 10 a.m. Worship begins at 11 a.m. Aloha attire.

Mariano Vea of Kekaha passed away at the age of 85 on April 19, at home. Born on May 6, 1931 in Kekaha, he retired from Kekaha Sugar Company as a journeymen welder.
He was preceded in death by his parents Valeriano Vea and Rufina Sacullis, stepmother Ruperta Vea, brothers Carlos Vea and Aurelio Vea, sister Florencia Ramos Pedro, and sister-in-law Patricia Ramos.
He is survived by his wife Carlina Tumbaga Vea, son Norman (Diane Acoba) Vea of Kekaha and Ivan (Fay) Vea of Waimea, daughters Marlina Vea of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Danette (Korey James) Vea Wise of Hanapepe, grandchildren Eric Uribe, Stevan (Ashley) Uribe, Norman Vea Jr., Aaron Vea, Nikki-Ann (Cy) Corona, Urijah Acoba-Vea and Kustom V.V. Wise, great-grandchild Brisa Uribe, brothers Alejandro (Marcelina) Vea of Koloa, Alfredo Ramos Jr. of Oahu, Juan Ramos of Oahu and Francisco (Lorna) Ramos of Hilo, sisters Julia Aque of Oahu and Gloria Ramos Hipolito of Maryland, brother-in-law Chris Pedro, sister-in-law Flora Vea, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, May 6, at the West Kauai United Methodists Church in Kekaha. Visitation will be at 8:30 to 10 a.m. with services beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Kekaha Public Cemetery.

Engracia ‘Conching’ Aguzar Baris
Engracia Aguzar Baris, 97, of Hanamaulu, passed away on April 16 at Garden Isle Healthcare.
Born on April 16, 1920 in Guimba, Nueva Ecija, Philippines, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bonifacio Baris, parents Eligio and Luisa Aguzar, brothers Moises and Wenceslao “Stanley” Aguzar, sister Ildefonsa de Guzman and grandson Peter Gano.
She is survived by her children Natividad Bali, Veronica Gano, Corazon Duran, Fel “Boy” (Belma) Baris, Thelma (Pacifico) Ruiz, Adora Ancheta, Alicia (Romeo Mercado) Paleracio, Nonito Baris, Benny (Josephine) Baris, Artemio (Rocelyn) Baris and Jay Baris, 25 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, May 5, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary chapel in Koloa from 6 to 9 p.m., and again on Saturday, May 6, at Immaculate Conception Church from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Beverly “Ema” L. Furfaro of Hanalei Kauai, Hawaii passed away on April 16, 2017, at the age of 67.Born on March 1, 1950, she was a secretary for Princeville Corporation.
She was preceded in death by: parents, Henry and Judy Gomez, sister, Marilyn Wong Keoho.
She is survived by: husband, Jay Furfaro, daughters, Nicole Furfaro, Jennifer “Jenna” (Chuck) Gillis, Marissa “Missy” (Kailoa) Harman, 3 grandchildren: Charlie, Mia & Sophia, sisters Lauren Lui-Kwan, Donna Malia (Jeff Powers) Gomez, brother, Bob (Helene) Gomez; numerous aunties and uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

William ‘Bradda’ F. Rittmeister
William “Bradda” F. Rittmeister of Anahola, Kauai, Hawaii passed away on April 1, 2017, at the age of 78. Born on Feb. 21, 1939, in Eleele, Kauai, he was a chief master sergeant for the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army GS12 Chief of sports. He was a Vietnam Veteran.
He was preceded in death by: William and Hannah Rittmeister, sister, Arlette Adams; daughter, Roseanna Rittmeister.
He is survived by: wife, Judy Rittmeister, son’s, William “Bill” (Luana) Rittmeister, Daniel “Danny” (Dora) Rittmeister, Benjamin (Susan) Rittmeister, Benjamin “Kaulu” Rittmeister, sister, Peaches Cullen, numerous grandchildren & numerous nieces & nephews, cousins, friends.

Jason Delos Reyes of Hanamaulu passed away at Straub Clinic and Hospital on April 21, at the age of 56. He was born on Feb. 27, 1961, in Lihue. He worked as a Guest Relations Specialist with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters.
Preceded in death by his daughter, Jasey Delos Reyes; parents, Felipe and Abelina Delos Reyes; sister, Priscilla Gummerus; nephew, John Phillip Gummerus.
Jason is survived by his son, Jonas Delos Reyes; daughter, Chaya Delos Reyes; brothers, Philip (Sharlyn), Kenneth, Robert (Jan), Roland, Samuel; sisters, Kathleen Delos Reyes, Janice (Raynard) Ellis; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and friends.

Verdelle Constance Kealo’okawa’a Peters-Lum
Verdelle Lum passed away at the age of 88 at home peacefully surrounded by family in Kilauea on April 25, 2017. She was born on April 6, 1929, in Honolulu. Verdelle was very active with the Kauai Association United Church of Christ. She was a volunteer secretary and moderator for the Wai’oli Church of Christ. Verdelle was an accountant for the Waikiki Beach Press, American Sanitary Laundry and C &H Sugar Company. She was the office manager-account manager for Coors Beer Western Region and Murchison Construction. She was also employed by Hanalei Bay Resort.
She is preceded in death by husband, Albert YC Lum; son, Barney GS Lum; parents Albert Kahilikuokalani Peters and Esther Kekaiku’ilehua Woodward-Peters; sister, Florence Ka’ala Peters-Hashimoto; brother, Spencer Kahilikuokalani Peters, half-sisters; Esther Kekaiku’ilehua “Lehua” Perkins; Stella Peters; and Elaine Perkins-Arellano; half-brothers, Milton Perkins; Ralph Sing Choy; and Homer Perkins; hanai sister, Agnes Chung.
She is survived by adopted brother, Kervin Peters of Honolulu; sons, Bruce GS (Sharlene Chun) Lum of Honolulu, and Brent GW (Deborah) Lum of Kilauea; daughter, Jade Haunani SL (Gary) Pacheco of Kilauea.
