Vai Malafu of passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on May 13, 2017, at the age of 50. She was born in Tonga on March 10, 1967, and was a dedicated homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents Semisi and Vika and brother Laukau Latu.
She is survived by her husband Sione Talanoa Malafu of Anahola, son Aloni, daughter Alisa, sisters Paeahelotu (Feleti) Finau and Lisia (Tua) Fakapulia and Isikeli (Alaimoana) Latu of Tonga.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 27, at Aloha Church, with visitation at 8 a.m. and services beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Lihue Cemetery.

Verdelle Constance Kealo‘okawa‘a Peters-Lum
Verdelle Lum passed away at the age of 88 at home peacefully surrounded by family in Kilauea on April 25, 2017. She was born on April 6, 1929, in Honolulu. She was very active with the Kauai Association United Church of Christ. She was a volunteer secretary and moderator for the Wai‘oli Hui‘ia Church of Christ, and an accountant for Waikiki Beach Press, American Sanitary Laundry and C&H Sugar Company. She was also office manager-account manager for Coors Beer Western Region and Murchison Construction, and had been employed by Hanalei Bay Resort.
She was preceded in death by husband Albert Y.C. Lum, son, Barney G.S. Lum, parents Albert Kahilikuokalani Peters and Esther Kekaiku‘ilehua Woodward-Peters, sister Florence Ka‘ala Peters-Hashimoto, brother Spencer Kahilikuokalani Peters, half-sisters Esther Kekaiku‘ilehua “Lehua” Perkins, Stella Peters and Elaine Perkins-Arellano, half-brothers Milton Perkins, Ralph Sing Choy and Homer Perkins, and hanai sister Agnes Chung.
She is survived by adopted brother Kervin Peters of Honolulu, sons, Bruce G.S. (Sharlene Chun) Lum of Honolulu and Brent G.W. (Deborah) Lum of Kilauea, daughter Jade Haunani S.L. (Gary) Pacheco of Kilauea, grandchildren Christopher (Margaret) Lum, Jennifer Lum-Matamua, Matthew Chun-Lum, Jeffrey Chun-Lum, Stacy-Al Pacheco, Chad (Kim Pa) Pacheco, Aaron H.K. (Tracy Kyle) Lum, Cheri R.K. Lum, Eric R.K. (Ashley) Lum, great-grandchildren Christian (Victoria) Lum, Rachel Lum, Michael (Ashley) Matamua, Jordan Matamua, Taira Matamua, Isaiah Matamua, Tylor Pacheco, David Pacheco and Aliyah Lum, great-great-grandchildren Dawson Lum, Eliza Lum and Taimane Matamua-Faataoafe, beloved puppy Princess, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 3, at the Wai‘oli Hui‘ia Church in Hanalei. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. with services beginning at 11 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Edith Kirie Kojiri
Edith Kirie Kojiri of Hanapepe passed away at the age of 85 on May 16, 2017, at Kauai Care Center. Born on Dec. 22, 1931 in Eleele, she was an occupational therapy aide.
She is survived by her husband Masami Kojiri, sons Rodney Kojiri and Clyde Kojiri of Hanapepe, daughter Amy (Michael) Liberato of Hanapepe, grandchildren Tiana Kojiri, Llowen Liberato, Llayla (Jan) Bartolome and Llara Liberato, great-grandchildren Lyon Bartolome and Kolten Kojiri-Perreira, sister Ann Matsuoka of Eleele, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 27, at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel in Lawai. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. with a celebration of life to follow at 4 p.m.
The family suggests casual attire and requests flowers be omitted.

Timothy Michael Alalem
Timothy Michael Alalem of Kapaa passed away in Straub Hospital on March 8, 2017, at the age of 64. He was born in St. Francis Hospital in Honolulu, on Oct. 9, 1952, and retired from Otsuka’s Furniture and Appliances as an engineer technician.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jerry Pastor Alalem and Dorothy Shizue Tachibana, paternal grandparents that raised him Higino Bohol Alalem and Dominga Eltagondi Alalem, siblings Randell Rapozo, Sally Tabura, Sebastian Alalem, Connie Bartley, Lamberto Alalem, Edetta Alalem, Cresencio Alalem and Consuelo Carinio.
He is survived by his wife Jan Cheryle (Worthington) Alalem, sons Michael-Lee Alalem and Allen-Dean Keola Alalem Worthington, daughters Krystle-Nicole (Giovanni) Lagmay and Jerilyn-Cheryle (Braxton Fernandes) Alalem, grandchildren Kiara Alalem, Andrew Alalem, Janell Perreira, Giovanni Lagmay Jr., and Masyn Lagmay, siblings Valerie (Raymond) Ornellas, Jewel (Jim) Holz, Laurel (Jumbo) Camacho, Mary Ellen Kaai, Lisa Smith, Valerie (David) Reifschneider, Patricia Brooks Alalem, Danny Alalem, Joseph (Andrea) Alalem and Dolores Kama, mother Elfriede Alalem, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 27, at St. Catherine Church, with visitation from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m.
Terrisita ‘Terry’ Maximo
Terrisita “Terry” Maximo of Lihue passed away on May 17, 2017, at the age of 60. She was born in Lihue on May 14, 1957, and was a department manager at Walmart.
She was preceded in death by her parents Eliceo and Marcela Maximo and brother Michael Maximo.
She is survived by her brother Fred Maximo, sisters Doris Pina, Frances Maximo, Linda (Eddie) StaAna, Leona (Sixto) Tagupa and Lisa Marie Bernabe, companion Bill Adams, pet dogs Lily and Charlie, nephew Michael Miranda, nieces Brooke Tagupa, Jennifer (Eric) Miller, Kelly Tagupa, Danielle (Tyler) Kluender and Nicki Adams-Romena, and grandnieces Rita and Eleanor Miller.
A celebration of life will be held on May 27, at Immaculate Conception Church, with visitation from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Scattering of ashes will be at a later date.

Hipolito ‘Bobot’ ‘Hip’ Bacud Jr.
Hipolito Bacud Jr. of Hanapepe, formerly of Waipahu, born in Honolulu on March 26, 1969, passed away at home on April 20, 2017, at the age of 48.
He was preceded in death by his father, the late Hipolito Cac Bacud Sr.
He is survived by sons Dylan Sidiaren-Bacud of Las Vegas and Bryson Sidiaren-Bacud of Lake Worth, Florida, daughter Abide Sidiaren-Bacud of Las Vegas, grandchildren Zaydee Eraso and Kenneth Eraso Jr., mother Florafina L.B. Castillo, stepfather Delifin C. Castillo, brother Herwin Langaman Bacud of Hanapepe, sisters Ann Margaret Hangman Bacud of Hanapepe and Floralyn Langaman Bacud (John) Moreno of Texas, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, June 3, at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. with Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at the Hanapepe Public Cemetery.

Kayla Kaohinani ‘Kay-Kay’ Huddy-Lemn
Kayla Kaohinani “Kay-Kay” Huddy-Lemn, 19, of Anahola, was born on June 20, 1997, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital in Lihue.
On April 27, 2017, she was a victim in a fatal head-on collision on Kuhio Highway, which claimed her short young life.
She graduated from Kamehameha School Kapalama on Oahu, and attended her first year at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon.
She returned to Kauai after a year of college, taking a year off from her studies, and was employed at Brick Oven Pizza.
Her future plans were to attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa this coming fall in Honolulu, where she would continue her studies and eventually graduate with a degree in accounting.
She is survived by her parents Nathan Lemn and Verna Huddy, beloved sister Zaiana Huddy-Lemn and nephew Kaizaic Watson.
She also leaves behind her paternal grandparents George and LaVerne Huddy and William and Luella Lemn. She also shared a special bond with Dexter Barroga.
She left behind many aunties, uncles, loving cousins and numerous friends.
Her services will be held on June 10, at Ko‘olau Hu‘uia Church in Anahola, from 9 a.m. to noon. A celebration of life will follow at Anahola Beach Park.
