LIHUE — A Waimea man was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison on drug and gun charges.
Allan Bactad Jr., 59, appeared before Judge Kathleen Watanabe on promoting a dangerous drug in the second degree, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, and two counts of felon in possession of firearm in connection to a 2013 arrest.
KPD detectives executed a search warrant in Waimea on March 28, 2013, and recovered more than 5 grams of methamphetamine, cash, drug paraphernalia, live ammunition, a loaded 16-gauge shotgun, and a loaded M1 .30 caliber rifle.
Bactad has prior felony convictions for robbery, burglary, and promoting a dangerous drug in the third degree and repeatedly violated his parole on those charges.
A co-defendant in the case, Kerry Apo, was sentenced to a five-year prison term in 2014.
On Aug. 31, 2016, Bactad filed a motion to suppress evidence and/or dismiss felony information with prejudice.
The state opposed the motion and on Dec. 21, 2016, Watanabe denied the defendant’s motion in its entirety.
