HONOLULU — A trial has been continued for a Lihue man facing federal and state charges after police say he taped himself sexually assaulting a minor.
Michael Terui, 37, was set to go to trial on the four federal counts of sexual exploitation on April 25, but the trial was rescheduled.
He will now be heading to trial on July 18.
According to the indictment, which was returned by a grand jury on Feb. 24, the incidents occurred between 2008 and 2013.
The first count is relating to an incident in 2008.
“On or about Dec. 22, 2008, Terui did employ, use, persuade, induce, entice and coerce a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing visual depictions of such conduct,” according to the indictment.
The video was meant to be shipped out of state, the indictment reads.
The second count relates to an incident in September 2010, where Terui is accused of a similar action.
The third and fourth counts relate to 2016 occurrences: one in October and one in November, according to the indictment.
Terui was arrested Feb. 18 at his Lihue home on two counts of sexual assault.
He is now in federal custody, and is being detained the Federal Detention Center in Honolulu until his trial
Terui is set to go to trial on the state charges — sexual assault in the third degree — on July 10.
