Andrew Wah Piu Sun
Andrew Wah Piu Sun of Lawai passed away at age 90 on April 7, at Garden Isle Health Care. Born in Hanalei on March 29, 1927, he was a registered X-ray technician at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital, and a U.S. Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his father Tuck Chow, mother Christina Sun and brother Handsome Sun.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice Sun of Lawai, daughters Audrey Sun of Honolulu and Alison (Neal) Iseri of Koloa, grandchildren Janine Iseri of Hilo and Hokulani Iseri of Koloa, sisters Gladys Hashimoto of Lihue, Jane Kinzie of Anahola, Marilyn (Gene) Rayno of Lihue and Elsie Carrillo of Wailua, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, May 21, at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel in Lawai. Visitation with the family will be at 2 p.m. with services beginning at 3:30 p.m. Internment will take place at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Cecelia Pualilialanaikawai Aki
Cecelia Pualilialanaikawai Aki of Hanapepe passed away on April 26, peacefully at home at the age of 68. Born on March 20, 1949, she was a retired laborer with Fletcher Pacific.
She was preceded in death by her parents Cecelia Lehua Kaukani Aki and Albert Herman Aki Sr., brothers Marshall John Kilohana Aki and Albert Herman Kaleohano Aki Jr., and grandson Kainalu K. Napohaku.
She is survived by companion Christopher E. Kali of Hanapepe, daughters Cecelia (Sheldon) Hoffman of Kalaheo, Anela (Christian) Ogawa of Lihue and Girley (Troy Yamamoto) Napohaku of Hanapepe, and her one and only son Noah Napohaku of Hanapepe, 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, brother George (Lauretta) Kaukani of Oahu, sister Sally Aki of Arizona, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, at the Hanapepe Hawaiian Congressional Church.
The family suggests casual attire.

Timothy Michael Alalem
Timothy Michael Alalem of Kapaa passed away in Straub Hospital on March 8, at the age of 64. He was born in St. Francis Hospital in Honolulu on Oct. 9, 1952, and retired from Otsuka’s Furniture and Appliances as an engineer technician.
He was preceded in death by parents Jerry Pastor Alalem and Dorothy Shizue Tachibana, paternal grandparents who raised him, Higino Bohol Alalem and Dominga Eltagondi Alalem, siblings Randell Rapozo, Sally Tabura, Sebastian Alalem, Connie Bartley, Lamberto Alalem, Edetta Alalem, Cresencio Alalem and Consuelo Carinio.
He is survived by wife Jan Cheryle (Worthington) Alalem, sons Michael-Lee Alalem and Allen-Dean Keola Alalem Worthington, daughters Krystle-Nicole (Giovanni) Lagmay and Jerilyn-Cheryle (Braxton Fernandes) Alalem, grandchildren Kiara Alalem, Andrew Alalem, Janell Perreira, Giovanni Lagmay Jr. and Masyn Lagmay, siblings Valerie (Raymond) Ornellas, Jewel (Jim) Holz, Laurel (Jumbo) Camacho, Mary Ellen Kaai, Lisa Smith, Valerie (David) Reifschneider, Patricia Brooks Alalem, Danny Alalem, Joseph (Andrea) Alalem and Dolores Kama, mother Elfriede Alalem, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 27, at St. Catherine Church, with visitation from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m.
Kathryn Kubo
Kathryn K. Kubo of Waimea passed away on April 8, in Waimea. Born on Aug. 9, 1937 in Nawiliwili, she retired from the County of Kauai purchasing department.
She is survived by sons Kirk Kubo and Klayton Kubo, daughter Kris (Jason) Slack, grandchildren Karl Kubo, Noaa Kubo, Tiana Slack, Ryan Slack, Maegan Slack, Calvin Slack and Ariana Slack, brothers Lester Horibe and James Horibe, sister Janice Agustine, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services were held. Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary Ltd.
Hipolito ‘Bobot’ ‘Hip’ Bacud Jr.
Hipolito Bacud Jr. of Hanapepe, formerly of Waipahu, born in Honolulu on March 26, 1969, passed away at home on April 20, at the age of 48.
He was preceded in death by his father Hipolito Cac Bacud Sr.
He is survived by sons Dylan Sidiaren-Bacud of Las Vegas and Bryson Sidiaren-Bacud of Lake Worth, Florida, daughter Abide Sidiaren-Bacud of Las Vegas, grandchildren Zaydee Eraso and Kenneth Eraso Jr., mother Florafina L.B. Castillo, stepfather Delifin C. Castillo, brother Herwin Langaman Bacud of Hanapepe, sisters Ann Margaret Hangman Bacud of Hanapepe and Floralyn Langaman Bacud (John) Moreno of Texas, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, June 3, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Kekaha. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. with Mass to follow at 10 a.m. Burial will take place at the Hanapepe Public Cemetery.

Donna Maxine (Friend) Schulze
Donna Maxine (Friend) Schulze, the Lavender Lady of Kilauea, 92, passed away peacefully on April 27 at Wilcox Medical Center. Born on May 27, 1924 in Decatur, Illinois to Oscar and Hazel Mae (Dukes) Friend, she was preceded in death by her parents, husband George Schulze of Kilauea, children Melodye Dabney and Joey Swanson, and Glenn Petrini (husband of Gay Holden) and grandson Michael Doyle.
She is survived by children Happy Holden (Lydia) of Zeeland, Michigan, Jolly Holden (Lynda) of Marietta, Georgia, Gay Holden of Hollywood, Florida and Honey Charles (William “BC”) of Hanamaulu, as well as nine grandchildren and hanai granddaughter, and 14 great-grandchildren. She was a former executive director of the YMCA of Kauai (first woman to ever hold this position) and a retired school teacher and athletics coach.
A memorial celebration of her life will be held at Kauai Christian Fellowship, 4000 Kilauea Rd., Kilauea, Saturday, May 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. The family requests aloha or casual attire, and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to YMCA of Kauai, 4477 Nuhou St., Lihue, HI 96766.
Keichi ‘Jonah’ Yamamoto
Keichi Yamamoto of Lawai was born on April 2, 1924, in Honolulu, and passed away on May 7, at Wilcox Medical Center. He was a retired warehouse clerk and U.S. Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by wife Nora (Nishiie) Yamamoto, sister Helen Kure and brother Alfred Yamamoto Sr.
He is survived by son Bruce (Cathy) Yamamoto, daughter Joan (Larry) Heller, and grandchildren Jill Yamamoto and Nathan Heller.
A private service has been held with appreciation to Garden Island Mortuary Ltd.
James ‘Jimbo’ Matthew Bermodez
James “Jimbo” Matthew Bermodez, 50, of Wahiawa, Oahu, passed away peacefully on April 19 at Pali Momi Medical Center on Oahu. He was born in Waimea, Kauai on Jan. 25, 1967, grew up in Mililani, and graduated from Kamehameha Schools in 1985.
He was a member of Wahiawa’s Door of Faith congregation where he played drums with the worship team. His caring nature and friendly disposition always opened doors for new friendships everywhere he went. Whether it was while working for the U.S. Postal Service facilities at the airport or for Foodland in Waipio Gentry or even during the many times he was a patient at Pali Momi, he was a person many were easily drawn to. As a born-again Christian, his faith grew stronger, even as diabetes-related ailments seemed to physically reduce him.
He was preceded in death by his mother Consuella “Connie” Bermodez.
He is survived by his father Jamie, wife Malia, sister Moana (Raymond) Callejo, brother Chauncy (Jennifer), stepdaughters Dawn (Frank) Browne of Virginia and Tarah Baguio of Idaho, stepson Kawika Baguio, a U.S. Navy sailor currently stationed in Kanagawa, Japan, one granddaughter, one niece, six nephews, and many uncles, aunties and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 28 at the Mauka Chapel of Mililani Memorial Park. Visitation begins at 5 p.m., followed by the service at 6 p.m.
Refreshments will be provided and dinner will be served in the hall following the service.
