LIHUE — The 2017 USA Racquetball Nationals Racquetball Singles Championships celebrated its 50th year anniversary in Phoenix this weekend.
In February, the Kaui brothers, Steven and Keith, as a team won medals at the USA National Doubles Championships and again, recently both won medals in singles one-on-one match play competition at the national level.
Kapaa graduate Steven Kaui won two bronze medals in two divisions: Men’s skill/age 40+B and 50+B. It was only his second time competing at this National Singles Championship. What made it more special was that his wife Tamlyn and son, Kunani on his summer break from the University of Hawaii, were there for support and to share his achievement.
Kamehameha graduate Keith Kaui, who retired from the Navy and lives in California, won a gold medal in the men’s 50+Elite Division.
It was a tough five-day tournament and Steven has won now at the state and national level. He’ll be back training hard and looking forward to competing at the premier grand slam racquetball event: The 2017 US Open Racquetball Championships in Minneapolis later this year.
