KALAHEO — Bombs from outside the three-point arc helped lead Na Koa basketball to a sweep Thursday night during the youth summer league basketball games at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Ceejay Vidinha peeled off 12 points, including a three-ball in the first half, and Mone Malafu added 14 points on seven buckets to lead Na Koa 6th grade to a 48-27 win over the Supersonics 6th in the opener.
Nash Ahloo finished with 10 points to lead Na Koa 6th.
Kaina Hasegawa topped the Supersonics 6th’s scoring on 10 points followed by Raysen Jarquio adding five points and Lindcey Constantino adding 4 points.
Rall Kala lit up the twine with 15 points — five treys — to lead Na Koa 8th grade to a 33-28 edge over the Supersonics 8th grade in the second match of the night. Martin Duayne added six points on three buckets, and low post Loni Tafea finished with four points dropping in the second half.
Aden Ringor balanced his scoring between two halves, finishing with 10 points, and Mayson Broyles coughed up nine second half points in the Supersonic effort.
The third match in Kalaheo was called off when one team pulled out.
Results from the three games contested at the Bernice Hundley Gym in Kapaa saw Kapaa High School’s Jazmine Kaleiohi and Paea Tafea each score a dozen points to lead the high school team to a 43-23 win over the high school Kaulupono who got 10 points from Hazel Serapio.
Amalya Sales tickled the twine for 10 points to lead the Kauai Lynx to a 25-13 showing over the Kauai Ballers, Tasha Kamoku leading the effort with eight points.
Jaley Medeiros came up with eight points to lead the A‘o Uka Rebels to a 17-8 win over the Dream Team in the final match of the night. Alexis Ann Yam led the Dream Team effort with five points.
Three games will start off the week, Monday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center when the Lakers host the evening.
At 6 p.m., the Lakers fifth grade boys host the Warriors fifth graders followed at 7 p.m. by the Lakers Gold eighth grade division, hosting Hanakila, a team comprised primarily of players from the Hanalei and Kilauea areas. At 8 p.m., the Lakers Purple in the sixth grade division take on the Warriors sixth-graders.
