LIHUE — There will be excitement abounding on stage at the Kukui Grove Center food court Saturday.
Storybook Theatre will honor Kauai’s families with a free event that is all about dads. From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. the center court will be filled with activities and entertainment to provide fun and memories to keiki and dads.
Cirque Ohana Family Circus will perform every hour. Their program leader, Graham Ellis, is founder of “Hiccup Circus” from Puna on the Big Island. That group performed on Kauai many times.
Keiki and dads will enjoy an inflatable coral reef created by fabric artist Evelyn Roth of Adelaide, Australia. The reef also features more than 40 costumes for performers and audience participants who will present an underwater parade and visit the inside of the inflatable coral reef for storytelling and learning about the importance of preserving ocean ecosystems.
There will be contests of skill for dads and children, such as change the baby, dad and child look alike, portagee horse shoes and a social media challenge. They will be able to win prizes, and there will be a coral reef coloring contest created by artist and author Monika Mira.
The event includes a silent auction to raise funds for school programs of Storybook Theatre that help to preserve marine environments.
