There’s always something new at the Taste of Hawaii, Kauai’s ultimate Sunday brunch.
From braised pork belly from The Green Pig to truffled risotto from the Lanai at Living Foods Market to even candy apple banana from Cafe Pesto, Sunday’s 29th installment of the island’s favorite cornucopia of local eateries and drinks will offer patrons more than their money’s worth.
One thing, however, remains the same. It’s the reason why everyone who spent $100 on advanced tickets and the same reason why anyone who hasn’t should spend $125 at the entrance.
Proceeds support 16 service projects for nonprofits.
“All Rotary Clubs have to figure out a strategy for fundraising money and many clubs choose to have lots of little things here or there, but our club has chosen this very large event,” said Ron Margolis, co-chair of the Rotary Club of Kapaa project.
For instance, college-bound students have received $8,000 in scholarships from funds from past events.
Junior Achievement Kauai, a program that educates young people on financial literacy, received $10,000 to support classes in schools from kindergarten through high school.
The money spent on programs this year was raised during the past two Taste of Hawaii events, a figure of $75,000.
For the past eight years, Chef John Paul Gordon of The Bistro and Palate Wine Bar and Restaurant in Kilauea has participated in Taste of Hawaii.
“A lot of the reason why we do participate at Taste of Hawaii is to give back a lot to the community, on island and off. We love raising money,” Gordon said.

The fundraiser also supports:
• Boys & Girls Clubs of Kauai
• Mokihana Aquatics
• The Rotary Clubs of Hanalei Bay, Poipu Beach, West Kauai, and Kauai (Lihue)
• Boy Scouts
• Kapaa High School Interact Club
• Kapaa Elementary Adopt-a-Teacher, which adopted 33 classrooms at Kapaa Elementary, providing each teacher with $700 for classroom supplies and field trips.
All of these programs are at the forefront of every volunteer working diligently, every eatery dishing out something onolicious and every patron having an unforgettable time.
Kauai has many wonderful events throughout the year. Taste of Hawaii is one that should not be missed. It is truly that good. Rotarians guarantee you will not go home disappointed.
