HONOLULU — The Hawaii Consolidated State Plan for the Every Students Succeeds Act was unanimously approved by the Board of Education Tuesday.
The plan will be submitted following a 30-day window for Gov. David Ige to sign it.
ESSA is being implemented to replace the No Child Left Behind Act, which aims to serve as Hawaii’s application for federal funding.
Corey Rosenlee, Hawaii State Teachers Association president, said he would be “watching closely” to see if changes would be made regarding testing and teacher evaluations in the new ESSA.
HSTA spokesperson Keoki Kerr said Wednesday no major changes occurred when the ESSA was approved.
Ige was in support of the new act, saying that the past year has led to “unprecedented” engagement regarding the state’s educational outlook.
