NAWILIWILI — Kelvin Moniz, executive director of the Kauai Independent Food Bank, said they really needed the van Wednesday when representatives of Shioi Construction turned over keys to a vehicle to the food bank.
“Our big truck is broken, and before this donation, we needed to send out a truck, and car to the orchards,” Moniz said. “We are so grateful for this generous gift from Shioi Construction.”
Conrad Murashige, president of Shioi Construction, learned of the need while talking with Brad Nagano of Mokihana Insurance Agency, and a KIFB board member.
After looking over the construction company’s resources, Murashige offered one of its vans to the Nawiliwili food bank.
“Shioi Construction is happy to be able to help the Kauai Independent Food Bank,” Murashige said. “The organization has, and continues to provide such valuable services to our community. This is one way for us to show our appreciation for the work they do.”
The donated van will be used primarily to transport volunteers to and from orchards as well as haul the harvested fruit back to the KIFB warehouse where it will be processed for distribution.
