Jiro Yukimura
Jiro Yukimura of Hanamaulu passed away on April 6, 2017, at the Garden IsleHealthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Lihue on Nov. 17, 1920, he was 96 years old.
A retired probation officer with the Family Court and a Military Intelligence Service (MIS) World War II veteran, he was preceded in death by his parents Hisakichi and Shima Yukimura, and brother Yoshio Yukimura.
He is survived by wife Jennie, children JoAnn Yukimura (John Wehrheim) of Lihue, John (Hinda) Yukimura of Edmonds, Washington, Miles Yukimura of Lihue, Kathy (Mark) Fertello of Brier, Washington and David Yukimura of Lihue, grandchildren Maile (Patrick) Walters of Kalihiwai, Rachel Yukimura of Oakland, California, David Fertello of North Hollywood, California, Jesse Yukimura of Miami, Florida, Kara Fertello of Honolulu, and Audrey and Elise Yukimura of Lihue, and great-grandchild Ualani Walters of Kalihiwai.
He was a warm, unassuming man who loved his family and friends, the ocean and the outdoors, classical music, languages, painting, and playing his ukulele with a can of cold beer close by. He was a faithful Christian and a member of the Y’s Men Club, a service club to the YMCA. As a probation officer, he showed compassion with discipline, and many of his clients remember with affection how he helped them get through a rough time of their lives. He also had a keen sense of humor and a strong commitment to social justice. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 15, at Lihue Christian Church, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. The family suggests aloha or casual attire.
Ronald Clifford Dixon
Ronald Clifford Dixon of Princeville passed away on May 30, 2017, at the age of 81. He was born in San Francisco on Jan. 30, 1936, and retired from the City and County of Honolulu as a lifeguard.
He is survived by his wife Berlinda, son Clifford Kamalani Dixon of Kapaa and daughter Leiola N.D. Kamalani of Aiea, and granddaughters Kylee Ann Kamalani and Kaylen Kamalani.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Dixon family with arrangements.
Sister Roselani Gomes
Sister Roselani Gomes, 90, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Friday, May 26, 2017, at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
The former Mildred Gomes was born on March 21, 1927, in Puhi, daughter of the late Joseph and Mildred (Marques) Gomes.
She entered the convent in 1947 and professed her vows in 1950. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Silver Lake College, Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and served as a teacher at St. Therese, Appleton, and St. Mary, Waukesha, Wisconsin; St. Theresa, Kekaha, and Cathedral, Honolulu, in Hawaii; St. Francis and Immaculate Conception in Yuma, Arizona, and principal at St. John, Komatke, Arizona. Sister Roselani also served as secretary, typist and writer for the community’s general administration, and was assistant to the archivist at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. Since 2016 she had been a resident of St. Rita Health Center, Manitowoc.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Mildred (Marques) Gomes, siblings Joseph (Adeline) Gomes, Mary (John) Medeiros, Manuel Gomes, Lionel (Mary) Gomes, Olivia (William) Goodwin, James (Lucy) Gomes, Richard (Margaret) Gomes, Margaret (Edward) Arruda and Harry Gomes.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 30, at Holy Family Convent chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass was the Rev. Finian Zaucha, O.F.M. Burial followed at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
Doris T. Kimokeo
Doris T. Kimokeo passed away peacefully at Kauai Care Center on May 19, 2017, at the age of 92. She was born on July 12, 1924, in Honolulu.
Doris was a retired Hawaii Government Employees Association employee (custodian and groundskeeper) at Waimea Canyon School.
She was preceded in death by husband William Kimokeo and brother Yoshio Takenouchi.
She is survived by her sister Jane F. Takenouchi of Honolulu, sons Warren Kimokeo of Mililani Mauka and Kenneth Kimokeo of Kekaha, grandson Jason (Christine) Kimokeo of North Carolina, and great-grandchildren Kaylah, Kaleo, Kawai and Keahi.
Private services were held. The family requests no koden.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Kenneth Mitsunori Iwai
Kenneth Mitsunori Iwai of Hanapepe passed away on May 26, 2017, at the age of 78. Born on Nov. 26, 1938, she was a Hawaiian Airlines agent and a medic. He was a member of the Hawaii Army National Guard.
He was preceded in death by parents Kenichi and Chiyoko Iwai and brothers Roy and Franklin Iwai.
He is survived by son Dean Iwai of Kapaa and daughter Jennifer (Brandon) Toguchi of Kapaa, grandchildren Kalen, Keenan Pavri Iwai, Brayden and Kacilyn Toguchi, brother Rudy Iwai of Washington and sister Irine (Thomas) Muraoka of Eleele.
A celebration of life will be held on June 11, at the Hanapepe Hongwanji Temple. Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. will services at 3 p.m.
The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.
Garden Island Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
Tammy Sanae Kakutani
Tammy Sanae Kakutani of Lihue passed away on May 27, 2017, at the age of 50.
Born on July 26, 1966, she was a court baliff.
She is survived by her aunt Pauline Shinshiro of Kamuela, Hawaii.
A celebration of life will be held on June 11 at Garden Island Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., with services at 4 p.m.
The family requests casual attire and that flowers be omitted.
