LIHUE — Stacks on stacks of six packs and biceps will be putting on a show at the Kauai Beach Resort on Wednedsday, in a performance that’s been hailed as equal parts tasteful and out of control.
Thunder From Down Under promises Kauai the “ultimate girl’s night out,” and performer Stephen Morris said he and his counterparts have something for everyone.
“You can look forward to six different themes in the show and it’s choreographed, we’ve got all the bells and whistles when it comes to production,” Morris said.
He’s been traveling with the group for three years and said out of the many places he’s visited, Hawaii is in his top three. He’s been to the islands four times, twice for work, and is looking forward to coming back to Kauai.
“Everyone out there is nice and happy, and there’s this laid-back chill aura around Kauai,” Morris said. “With the culture and the beaches, it’s beautiful.”
Thunder From Down Under is headquartered in Las Vegas and since its 1991 debut, more than seven million people have taken in the show, which has been featured on television shows like NBC’s “Today,” “The Tyra Banks Show,” “ABC Daytime” and “Project Runway.”
Morris strode onto the scene at the urging of a friend, whom he was visiting in Las Vegas while traveling. He wasn’t interested in joining the show, but his friend pushed him to submit some modeling and brand shots anyway.
“I wasn’t going to do it and a couple of weeks later I was on a plane back to Vegas,” Morris said. “I get paid to stay in shape and travel the world, and the way I look at it, that’s a dream job. I pinch myself sometimes.”
Breaking barriers and stereotypes is one of Morris’ favorite things about performing with Thunder From Down Under, as well as smashing the monotony of daily routine.
“It’s about changing people’s nights for the better,” Morris said. “It’s rewarding when they’re walking away and have had a great night.”
Morris will be embodying the policeman fantasy for his audience, but he wouldn’t give too much away about the upcoming performance.
“If you’re lucky, I’ll get you up on stage and we’ll have a good night of it,” he said.
The Wednesday performance is brought to Kauai by BAMP Project beginning at 8 p.m. at Kauai Beach Resort. Tickets are $39.50 – $59.50 plus fees. The show is for those 21 and older.
