WAIMEA — The Waimea Alumni and Friends Foundation annual General Membership Meeting and Luau will be held on Saturday in the Waimea High School Cafeteria.
The event will celebrate four special accomplishments, including the celebration of Waimea High School’s 135th birthday.
Waimea High opened its doors as an elementary school in 1881 and expanded to grades K-12 in 1935. In 1977, the school turned into a four-year high school, serving students in grades 9-12.
During the 23rd annual general membership meeting, Teddy Arroyo, Ruth Cassel, Gladys Okada, Mark Ozaki and Chad Ken Taniguchi will be presented the Spirit Award in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the school and/or community.
Saturday will also be a celebration of the installation of baffles in the cafeteria. The foundation hired Shioi Construction to install acoustic treatment to make cafeteria more conducive to group gatherings.
Dinner service will begin at 6 p.m.
