Kelta O’Rourke finished tops in the Under 19 Beach Flags on Wednesday at the U.S. Lifesaving Association National Junior Lifeguard Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida.
O’Rourke, one of the more than 12 Kauai Junior Lifeguard participants, was ranked No. 4 in the world in Flags following the 2016 competition. Her win Wednesday put her at the top after she edged out Chloe Kimes of the California State Lifeguard Association in the finals. She continued to reap hardware with a No. 2 finish in the U19 Division girls Board Race.
According to results posted by the USLA, Keon Orlando finished 10th in the event for the boys U19 Flags in the event which was taken by Val Ferraro of the Hampton Lifeguard Association.
Juliana Tampus finished fifth in the A Division girls Flags, two places ahead of Victoria Hennessy who ended in seventh. Kawai Beeby also placed 9th in the event. Tampus was joined by Maddie Hoesel, Mercedes Stearns and Malia Splittstoesser in claiming the No. 7 spot in the Swim Relay.
Beeby continued to reap hardware, placing seventh in the A Division girls Ironguard, two places ahead of Tampus who ended the event ninth. Beeby also took second in the Board Race where Tampus finished sixth.
Hennessy finished tops in the A Division girls Distance Run followed by Tampus getting fourth in the event.
Kellen O’Rourke ended the day fifth in the A Division boys Flags. He redeemed that finish by topping the A Division boys Distance Run before nailing the No. 3 spot in the Board Race.
Dutch Fairbanks made his mark with a fourth finish in the U19 boys Distance Run. He combined with Henry Scherer and Keon Orlando to finish fifth in the U19 Rescue Race.
Schuyler L. Cole of Honolulu was the sole Hawaii finisher in the Surf Swim Race, Cole nailing the sixth spot. He also reaped the No. 4 spot for the U19 Division boys Ironguard. Schuyler tapped the No. 4 spot in the Run Swim Run where Henry Scherer finished in the No. 11 spot.
Dylan Cole of Honolulu made his mark with a third place finish in the A Division boys Ironguard and a fourth finish in the Board Race.
Cole Frye made his mark with a third finish in the U19 Division boys Board Race where Schuyler ended in seventh place.
