The Dream Team clinched the fifth-grade girls division crown and the Kauai Thunder wrapped up the fifth-grade boys division title, while Na Koa basketball took the sixth-grade boys division title to wrap up the summer youth basketball league over the weekend at Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Playing on an untraditional Friday night, the Dream Team girls sewed up its division title with a 21-9 victory over the Kaulupono fifth-graders behind seven-point contributions from guard Lele Gonsalves and utility player Lilinoe Makepa-Andaya.
Kaulupono strong guard Katelyn Constantino finished with an equal seven points to lead the Westside girls’ effort.
Other Friday action saw Sky Ripley net eight points to lead the Westside A team to a 23-2 win over Westside B, which got its pair from Jasha Kawamura.
Guard Skylyn Fagarang piloted the A‘o uka Rebels fifth-grade girls to a 20-16 edge over the Kauai Lynx, which got six points from its low post Jazlyn Phillips.
Isaac Mirey ended with a game-high 14 points to lead the Kauai Thunder fifth-grade boys to a 50-26 win for the title of that division in a Saturday matchup. Kala‘iakea Esteban and Joshua Rego each tipped in nine points to aid the win, and Keaka Kauhane finished by scoring 23 of Na Koa’s 26 points in the effort.
The Na Koa sixth-grade boys redeemed that sore spot by claiming the division title with a 59-37 win over the Supersonics.
Mone Malafu and Michael Questin fueled the win on 27 and 12 points, respectively, while John Randell Fernandez led the Supersonics’ scoring with 16 points.
The final Saturday matchup saw the Warriors take a 10-point margin over the Lakers Purple in a battle between the Lihue sixth-grade boys. Darian Andres led the Warriors’ win on 11 points while Daniel Kahili Pa dropped a dozen points for the Lakers Purple effort.
