KALAHEO — Kierstin Gummerus was on fire Saturday, firing off a game-high 18 points to lead the eighth-grade girls division Kaulupono to a 58-34 win over the Kauai Lynx during the summer youth basketball league games at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Kaye Serapio added 15 points and Braelyn Cayaban finished with 14 points to give Kaulupono the title in the eighth-grade girls division.
Kiani Pia Salvador may not have placed in the top scoring position, but celebrated the Dream Team’s 27-20 win over the Ao uka Rebels with a breakfast from the Kauai Community Market at the Kauai Community College.
“They had an early game,” said Kiani’s mom. “They played at 8 a.m. with the Kaulupono game following.”
Tracelle Iwamoto topped the Dream Team’s win on 10 points followed by Alexis Yam adding six points.
Jaley Medeiroes netted 10 points for the Rebels’ effort.
The fifth-grade girls division saw Jazlyn Phillips net 14 points and Taira Samiano-Olivera adding eight points to lead the Kauai Lynx to a 36-4 win over the Westside B team who got two points each from Tyra Valencia and Kayleen Lewis.
Cece Baliaris finished with 10 points and Skylyn Fagarang ended with nine points to lead the fifth-grade A‘o uka Rebels to a 22-20 edge over the Westside A who got a game-high 14 points from low post Tavina Harris.
During the boys sixth-grade division games, Syrus Delos Reyes marked 18 points and Darrian Andres added 10 points to lead the Warriors to a 58-18 win over the Lakers Gold who got six points from Bryan Brown in the effort.
The Lakers Purple redeemed the Gold team’s loss with a 38-22 showing over Hanakila in the second sixth-grade division game contested Saturday. Austin Renaud topped the Lakers Purple win on 13 points followed by Sage Cua adding 11 points. Braden Betteauer topped the Hanakila effort on 11 points.
During the fifth grade boys division match, Nash Ah Loo ended with a game-high 17 points and Keaka Kauhane added 13 points to lead Na Koa to a 45-28 win over Westside who got 10 points from Javen Bagaoisan-Kaneakua, and eight marks from Josiah Delos Reyes.
Joshua Rego came alive for 14 points to lead the Kauai Thunder, fifth-grade boys to a 35-23 win over the Warriors who got nine points from Tevita Vaenuku. Kauai Thunder low post Isaac Mirey added nine points in the win.
