Members of the Sakamoto family Ryant, T’Ryane and Ryancie, closed summer with a bang and filled in top positions in the latest drag races held Saturday night at the Kauai Raceway Park in Mana.
Ryant, sponsored by Rapozo’s Auto Body-Rich and Philip Rapozo, Brick Oven Pizza, Triple T Plumbing, PMS-Pauly’s Mobile Service, Diamond D Ranch, All Kauai Bail Bonds and Half-Scale Dragsters, topped the Junior Dragster races after Christopher Silva, sponsored by RC Fabrication, 420 Air, Don Silva, Ekolu Valpoon, Keola and Janil Ke, Kauai Vehicle Servie Center, Grandma, Papa and Mama, red-lighted in the final run on a -0.005 reaction.
Ryant tooled to the trophy on a .063 light to run the final on an 8.887 estimated time on an 8.90 dial-in to reach 74.14 mph.
T’Ryane, sponsored by the Rapozo Auto Body ‘ohana of Rich and Philip, Brick Oven Pizza, Triple T Plumbing, PMS and Half-Scale Dragsters, topped the third place run over Kyle Rapozo whose vehicle was decorated with stickers from Kevin’s Repair & Racing, Snap On Tools and the Kauai Vehicle Service Center.
Ryancie captured top honors in Second Shot over Danika Braun who finished the night with Closest to Dial In honors on an 8.91 ET on an 8.91 dial in.
Presented by the Garden Isle Racing Association and the Garden Isle Jr. Drag Racing Association, computer glitches kept a firm hold on the night’s agenda of data to force Tracie Sakamoto, a GIRA board member, to rely on her memory cells for unofficial winners of the category races.
Michael Acoba topped Riley Takayama in the Top Gun class, and Lennox Camat took the Super Pro ET class over Sam Fernandez.
Jon Nakashima took the Muscle V8 class over Alma Koetje who also filled in the runner-up spot in the Ladies Class after dropping the lead to Kelsie Iida-Vierra.
Eric Lazar took the Street class, and Bryson Fontanilla captured the Sport Compact class over Kory Uemura.
The Garden Isle Racing Association and the Garden Isle Jr. Dragsters Racing Association will host its final night races of the calendar with the Labor Day races on Sept. 2 and 3 at the Kauai Raceway Park in Mana. Following that race, the endangered seabird fledging season move drag races to day runs on Oct. 1 and Nov. 12.
