Following three weeks of bowling in the Kauai Interscholastic Federation season, the Kauai High School boys team and the Waimea High School girls bowling teams hold the lead in the team standings with three more matches on tap before Kauai hosts the Hawaii High School Athletic Association state tournament, Oct. 26 and 27 at the Kauai Bowl at Rice Shopping Center in Lihue.
The Menehune girls continued their winning ways Thursday, taking the team win by just seven pins, 2,040 total pinfall edging out Kauai High, which ended with 2,033, according to results submitted by Waimea coach Todd Ozaki.
Top female bowler was Dana Murata, an award-winning Kauai Junior Blazing Bowler, who finished with a high 218.
Aaryn Suan posted the top boys’ performance at 204.
Kauai boys continued their winning ways, rebounding from a tie with the Menehune last week. The Red Raiders surged to 2,571 total pinfall, besting Waimea’s 2,207 on series scores of 732, 897 and 842, to Waimea’s 718, 795 and 694.
Kapaa High School boys finished third with a 1,930 pinfall, its leading individual scores of 652, 627 and 651. Competing for their first year ever in KIF play, Kauai Christian Academy’s two boys rolled combined for 218, 175 and 201.
On the girls side, the Red Raider ladies finished with pinfalls of 725, 607 and 701, while the Menehune wahine posted scores of 608, 715 and 717.
Kapaa girls finished third at 1,817 (538, 686, 593) and the two Kauai Christian Academy girls combined for rolls of 153, 213 and 206.
KIF bowling continues Thursday with the first rolls taking place from 5:30 p.m. at the Kauai Bowl.
The Billy Tees HHSAA Bowling state championships are scheduled for Oct. 26 and 27 at the Kauai Bowl.
